6:46! Fall Prayer Series
Mondays
Do you have a Spirit-Tug to grow deeper in relationship with God through prayer? As part of our new Adult Faith Milestones ministry, we announce a 5-part series to be offered on Mondays, Sept. 28 – Oct. 26, from 6:46-8:00 pm. Our motivation is Mark 6:46, where Jesus says farewell to the crowds and goes “on the mountain to pray.” We say farewell to the crowded schedules of our lives and gather at 6:46 in the sanctuary to connect more deeply with God through instruction, learning, and various experiences of prayer. All are invited – bring a neighbor or friend!

LS FOOD MINISTRY TO HAVE IMPACT ON YOUNG LIVES:
Volunteers, Desserts & Donors Needed!
Thursdays through October 29
|
|
|
As part of our vision to reach out to community youth and the next stage of our Food Ministry, Living Springs is partnering with Fellowship of Christian Athletes to sponsor a weekly devotional pre-game meal for youth of the Ridgeview JV team on Thursday afternoons. Ridgeview is the high school located nearest to Living Springs, and many team members come from very difficult situations and need a lot of support.
Each Thursday, we need:
- 6-8 VOLUNTEERS (men & women) to help serve the food – and more importantly, to interact with these young men to be examples of faith & caring in their lives. We meet at church at 3:00 and transport our food to the school to serve the team. A pre-game devotion will be provided by Pastor and Lutheran Men.
- DESSERTS for about 85 hungry boys each week. Food Ministers Mark & Laura Cunningham are preparing the main meal, using a menu worked out with the coaches. Desserts for 100 portions total per day should be dropped off at church prior to 2:30 each Thursday. Cakes, cookies, pies, brownies – anything is welcome!
- MEAL SPONSORS. All donations are welcome –make checks to Living Springs and mark, “Football Food Ministry.” Thrivent members can use one of your free $250 projects for a meal! Or, if you know a business who could sponsor a meal, that would be great (about $300). Contact LMM President Bob Turnmire.
You can help just 1 Thursday – or several. 5 games left! Dates are Oct. 1, 8, 15, 22, 29. Sign-up chart for volunteers and desserts is in the Admin. Building (or call the office). May the Spirit tug at our hearts to respond to this call of love and grace!

Faith Formation Focus in October:
Moses
|
|
|
In September, our Faith Formation Focus was upon Abraham and Sarah. We learned that God blessed Abraham and Sarah with land, many descendants, and a son named Isaac.
October is going to be another amazing month as we see how God blesses Moses to lead God’s people, just as God blesses us each day to share God’s love and hope to everyone we meet.

Would you like to assist in teaching our young people on Sunday mornings? Please contact Leslie Bloss (lbloss3306@hotmail.com) or Lexanne Graves (Lexanne@livingspringscolumbia.org) if you are interested.

Backpack Food Ministry
What a great response we had to our stuff a bus event in September – we received plentiful supplies of juice, snacks, fruit & applesauce, but still have a need for non-refrigerated milk boxes, meat items, and cereal. Thank you in advance for your continued support of this ministry. Contact Karen Kranz for information.

Thank You
Dear Living Springs Family,
Thank you so much for the opportunity to serve you for the last 7 years. Where did the time go! We have sung a lot of music, spoken many prayers, laughed and cried together. What a wonderful time we have had.
Thank you for the beautiful wind chimes and prayer shawls that you gave me and Tim my last Sunday with you. The wind chimes are already on my deck, and will remind me of our amazing journey together. You will be in my prayers as I go to my next place of ministry.
Pax, Nickie

Lessons for Sunday, October 11
First Reading: Amos 5:6-7, 10-15
Amos was a herdsman by profession and a prophet by God’s call. During a time of great prosperity in the northern kingdom of Israel, the prophet speaks to the wealthy upper class. He warns his listeners that fulfilling God’s demand for justice brings blessing, while corruption and oppression incur God’s wrath.
Psalm (ELW): Psalm 90:12-17
So teach us to number our days that we may apply our hearts to wisdom. (Ps. 90:12)
Second Reading: Hebrews 4:12-16
We cannot hide our thoughts, desires, and actions from God, to whom we are completely accountable. Nevertheless, Jesus understands our human weakness and temptations, because he also experienced them. Therefore we can approach the throne of grace to receive divine mercy from Christ.
Gospel: Mark 10:17-31
Jesus has been teaching his disciples about what is most valued in God’s eyes. Now, a conversation with a rich man brings his message home to the disciples in a way that is surprising but unforgettable.

One day the devil challenged the Lord to a baseball game.
Smiling, the Lord proclaimed, "You don't have a chance. I have Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle and all the greatest players up here."
Yes," snickered the devil, "but I have all the umpires."
