Farm Position
Open Field Farm
Petaluma, California


We are seeking an enthusiastic, thoughtful and hard working person to join our family farm. We offer a unique opportunity to learn about managing a farm and a young family, working two thirds of the time on the farm and one third with our children. Open Field Farm is a diversified biodynamic farm, raising mixed vegetables and flowers, dry beans and corn, grass fed beef and lamb, and chickens.

Schedule:
  • Start date: As soon as possible
  • End date: December 2015, possibly longer
  • Monday to Friday:  7am to 5pm
  • 1 hour unpaid lunch: noon to 1 pm
  • Two 15 minute paid breaks at 10 am and 3 pm
Compensation:
  • $10/hour
  • A full CSA membership
  • Housing offered
  • Worker’s compensation.
Time off:
  • Weekends are off.
  • We encourage one week of unpaid vacation per season.
  • Holidays to be scheduled before the start of the season.
Job Description:
  • Introduction to all aspects of running a diversified farm with crops and animals.
  • Most of the work will be in the fields, assisting with the production of market vegetables. It will include but not be limited to: Transplanting, weeding, irrigating, and harvesting of a wide variety of vegetables and flowers.
  • Introduction to tractor safety and a possibility for some tractor work.
  • Introduction to growing grain, dry beans, and corn. Cleaning and processing of these crops.
  • Maintenance of the grounds, including perennial gardens and the barnyard areas.
  • Construction work.
Qualifications:
  • Enthusiastic about farm work, ability to problem solve and enjoys being part of a team.
  • Previous agricultural experience required.
  • Good physical condition for extended amounts of outdoor labor in all seasons and all weather (able to bend, sit, squat, rake, shovel, lift 50 lbs, and carry).
  • Must be reliable (appear on time and when agreed to).
  • Able to follow instructions.
  • Able to operate tools and mechanical equipment safely.

Estate Gardener/Farmer Position
New York Farm
Pine Plains, New York


Startup project on a diversified, one-acre farm consisting of organic vegetables, flowers, herbs and berries in scenic rural Dutchess County, New York. Production will be a mix of field, greenhouse and season extenders. Develop highest quality production system and varieties for utilization in value added products, CSA and on site gourmet modernist food lab. Opportunity to grow farm acreage up to 10 acres as the farm is part of a 150 acre estate.  Highest quality production is top priority.

Farmer(s) will direct operations, as well as manage employees. Expansion will include marketing, diversified crop planning, variety development, education and outreach. Owners are willing and able to invest in infrastructure and expansion. Potential for farmer to actively participate on board of family foundation aimed at nutritional research and grants in organic farming.

Position requires a passionate, self motivated quality-oriented organic farmer with at least 5 years of diversified organic food production experience. An experienced couple is a plus. Nearby housing provided, competitive starting salary with health benefits. Position to begin ASAP, with production commencing late Winter 2016.

Farm Manager
Canewater Farm
Darien, Georgia


Farm Manager position opening at Canewater Farm in Darien, GA.  This is a full time position starting November, 2015. This is a salaried position with two weeks paid vacation and bonus package. Salary is negotiable and based on experience.

We are a year round certified organic vegetable farm in our second year in production.  We cultivated 3.5 acres of vegetables and managed 15 in pasture and cover crop in 2015. We also maintain 30 acres in woodlands and pasture along pristine marsh on the Georgia coast. We also help manage our family farm in Ellijay, GA where we grow sorghum for syrup, garlic, and run a gristmill for grits/cornmeal. We also raise hogs in Ellijay for restaurants on the coast. Canewater’s newest undertaking is a 60-acre shellfish lease where we farm oysters and clams in Mud River located next to Sapelo Island. Needless to say, we are very diversified and need an individual to thrive in all areas as needed.  We are growing rapidly and there are many opportunities to grow within the business.

This job wears many different hats and the right candidate must be flexible and willing to adapt with the growth of the business.  The job requires 40-50 hours a week, 5 days a week. The main responsibilities include...
  • Tractor work and equipment maintenance
  • Managing 2 field crew members
  • Leading harvest, wash, pack
  • Leading a crew in field work (seeding, transplanting, weeding, trellising, etc..)
  • Record keeping for Organic Certification and organization

  • Crop planning and budget planning
  • Part time in the river with shellfish planting, maintenance, and harvest/wash.

Farmers' Market Manager & Delivery Driver
Sleeping Frog Farms
Cascabel, Arizona


About the farm: 
We are a 7-year-old Certified Naturally Grown vegetable farm outside of Tucson, AZ. The community we live in is called Cascabel, it is home to a wonderful and quirky bunch of artists, ranchers and Quakers and has much to offer in beauty and outdoor activity. Located in the San Pedro River Valley, ours is one of the most biologically diverse areas of the American Southwest. The farm is located in a transition zone between the Sonoran and Chihuahuan deserts. Its climate and terrain make for great hiking, biking and photography. We cultivate 20 acres of vegetables, fruits, herbs and flowers for 3 weekly farmer’s markets and multiple restaurants in Tucson, as well as a seasonal CSA and some Farm-to-School orders. 

Position summary: Farmer’s Market manager & Delivery driver (4-5 days/week total, year-round growing season)

Description: 
Mon – off day
Tues – drive truck from Tucson to farm, help with harvest, pack truck and drive back to Tucson
Wed – deliveries full day
Thurs – morning deliveries, afternoon Farmer’s Market
Fri – drive truck to farm, harvest, pack truck and drive back to Tucson
Sat – off day
Sun – optional Farmer’s Market in morning

Start date: One-month training period starts beginning of December 2015 - At least 6-month-long commitment 
Salary: TBD based on experience and schedule

Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate with harvest manager for restaurant orders
  • Write and maintain invoices for records
  • Some harvesting
  • Load and drive refrigerator truck 
  • Make multiple deliveries throughout Tucson
  • Market setup, sales and break-down, for 1 or 2 Farmer’s Markets weekly 
  • Maintain and document market supply and sales information 
Qualifications:
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Experience driving large trucks preferred
  • At least 1 season working on a production farm   
  • Customer service skills (Farmer’s Market experience preferred)
  • Flexibility in schedule
  • Professionalism in delivery interactions with clients
  • Strong professional communications 
  • Able to withstand high temperatures and sun exposure
  • Able to perform strenuous and repetitive work with a good attitude
  • Able to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with a crew

Housing is available on the farm, or you may provide your own in Benson (20 miles away) or Tucson (60 miles). Our current market manager lives in Tucson, this may be easiest since markets and deliveries are all in Tucson as well. We maintain a community-oriented atmosphere, and host interns year-round. If you decide to live with us, you must have the ability to live in close quarters with others, share space, respect privacy, be ready for new faces and personalities often, and have flexibility in responsibilities, including those tasks that keep common living areas livable. 

Housing/amenities available: 
There are several rooms in the house and a trailer available, as well as a common kitchen, laundry facilities, bathrooms and showers. Cooling, heating and hot water are all provided as well as food staples (rice, beans, bread, milk, peanut butter, oats, oil, spices, salt, etc.) and seasonal veggies and fruits. Internet and long distance phone services are provided, though we have no community computer.
