Welcome to the newsletter for October.

Well, it's that time of year again... a time for giving, and for growing, as the Grow Your Tenner campaign starts for 2015. See below for more on how NewCycling benefits and how you can donate, as well as thoughts on where we are after five years of campaigning; what cycle provision is needed at Haddricks Mill; and our concerns about the design of Great North Road.

Keep on pedalling!

Grow Your Tenner 2015 – NewCycling Call For Donations

It’s Grow Your Tenner time again! The scheme opens at 10am on Tuesday 13 October and will match all donations up to £10 until Wednesday 18 November 2015, or until the funding pot runs out – whichever comes first. Last year we raised an impressive £680 and this year, with your help, we are hoping to raise even more! To find out how it works, and how to donate, click here.

Five Years & Counting...

Newcastle Cycling Campaign was formed five years ago to address an imbalance in power, and an imbalance in local provision for day-to-day cycling in our city. We want to see its ‘needs and musts’ debated. We wish it to flourish and mature. After five years, surely it’s time to ask ourselves: what have we achieved? What did we want to achieve? Have we achieved (some of it)? To read all about these points, and more, click here for Katja's article in full.

Haddricks Mill – What Cycle Provision Is Needed?

We started talking about Haddricks Mill last month because we think this is a big and complex location in our city’s road network; and it warrants a proper debate and assessment. Every debate starts with facts and figures, and setting out your position and views. To read about ours – on the needs of cycle infrastructure for priority, safety and comfort – see the article here.

Newcastle Broadway / Great North Road – Our Concerns

Newcastle Cycling Campaign remain disappointed with the quality of design at Great North Road, from Broadway roundabout to Regent Centre. There are many flaws in the design, creating not just discomfort, but introducing new dangers for cyclists. This is against any road design practice which would seek a constant improvement and would not accept a worsening for vulnerable road users. Click here to read all about it, and also, you can read an article from the Evening Chronicle about "safety fears raised over changes to Gosforth traffic".
