Our Plan: Our Future

A Neighbourhood Plan for Boughton Aluph, Eastwell & Goat Lees

Issue 4, October 2015

Welcome

Thank you for signing up for our Neighbourhood Plan newsletter.
We are a small group of volunteers working with the Parish Council on a Neighbourhood Plan for Boughton Aluph, Eastwell and Goat Lees. Over the life of the project, we will send you regular updates and invite you to take part in events and surveys and to comment on the draft Plan. Together, we will shape the future of our community.

First community consultation events are a great success

A heartfelt thank you to everyone that took part in our four Neighbourhood Plan events held in Goat Lees, Boughton Lees and Sandyhurst Lane last month. In total, 236 local residents took part in the community consultation.
All ages were represented.  One of the youngest contributors was 6 years of age. Another had recently celebrated his 86th birthday. We really enjoyed meeting you all. Your input and support is vital to the success of this project.
There was a good representation of views from across our parish. This map shows the postcodes of contributors. The size of the bubble indicates the relative number of people from each postcode in the parish who attended.
Don't worry if you were unable to attend one of the events. There will be plenty of future opportunities to tell us your views. We are currently inviting feedback via our website. Or email us as info@parishplan.uk

Plenty of food for thought

Participants were asked to add their comments to our display boards. You took up the challenge and left us with 932 post-it notes. We will now review the feedback you have given us to determine what the emerging themes are and report back to you.
From what we have read so far, you have given us some very thoughtful responses. There also seems to be consensus around a number of issues.

What happens next?

Below are the key steps to preparing our Neighbourhood Plan. We're currently on Step 2 so there is a significant amount of work still ahead of us. However, your response to our community consultation has got us off to a very good start.

Based on what you have told us, we will move to the next phase of consultation. A questionnaire will go to every household in the parish early next year.  The results of the survey will form a key part of the evidence base for our Neighbourhood Plan.
Step 1 - Defining the neighbourhood
Step 2 - Preparation of a draft Neighbourhood Plan
Step 3 - 6 week public consultation on the draft Neighbourhood Plan
Step 4 - Submission of draft Neighbourhood Plan to the Local Planning Authority
Step 5 - Independent examination
Steps 6 & 7 - Parish referendum and making the Neighbourhood Plan (bringing it into force)
See a more detailed description of each step together with our outline timetable.
The Plan will be put to a parish referendum, where more than 50% of people voting must support the Plan for it to go forward. To date, people in 100 areas across England have turned out at their local polling station to vote to make their Neighbourhood Plan part of statutory planning policy, with nearly 9 out of 10 voters saying yes.
As a legal document our Neighbourhood Plan will carry real weight in planning decisions made by the local planning authority and give us, the local residents, more control over what happens in our area.
