NDLINK MONTHLY UPDATE

Connect. Collaborate. Coordinate.

Dear NDLinkers,

Have you heard the popular saying "The calm before the storm"? Well, that was what September felt like for us in the NDLink camp this month. The "storm" we are referring to of course is all the prep work behind the scenes for this year's upcoming NDDFs in DC and Asaba, respectively.

However, we did start the month strong with our first Akvo RSR training with 20 CSOs in the Niger Delta. Read more about it below, but let us say this here first -- it was so good to meet many of you during that workshop; a great opportunity to put the faces to names of people we have been working with virtually for almost a year.

Until next month,
The NDLink Team

NDLink improves development cooperation with 20 Niger Delta CSOs

On September 3rd, NDLink held it's first face-to-face event -- training 20 local CSOs (with 40 participants present) on how to use the Akvo RSR tool to better document and track progress on their donor-sponsored projects in the region. When Akvo's partnership with PIND began in July 2014, NDLink was just a few months old. Our NDProjects page contained a wealth of data, about more than 1,000 projects taking place in the region, but people were not using the information. Members found the quantity and the unintuitive format of the information, as it was presented then, intimidating. What was needed was a better way to help the growing NDLink community easily access information to make better decisions around grants and development projects in their local communities. We identified Akvo RSR as a good solution to make the information more accessible and to keep it perpetually up to date.

Akvo is helping PIND bring around 1,000 projects online on the NDLink platform using Akvo RSR, and training PIND staff and partners on how to maintain their projects online and post updates. We are working with local organizations to help them understand the benefits to the region of opening up their information and sharing it in an effective and accessible way. This is a complex and lengthy process that involves collecting project information in the Akvo RSR format and adding it to the RSR database, as well as supporting partners to develop a culture of openness.

Collaborative Efforts For Stimulating Investments and Inclusive Economic Growth in the Niger Delta
Asaba, Delta State, Nigeria | November 17-18, 2015

Expanding and continuing the conversation on investments and economic growth for the region, NDDF Asaba will seek to leverage on that tradition of value-added space where interested and committed development actors convene to take actions to promote growth while seizing the huge opportunity to influence the development agenda for the region. Unlike the previous Forums for 2015, NDDF Asaba will be conducted over two days with focused leading presentation papers on select topic areas.

The Forum will be keynoted by Professor Patrick Utomi with confirmed participation from several Niger Delta state governments, including the host state, Delta. Due to limited seating, participation in this event is by invitation only.

For up-to-date information on NDDF, kindly visit the Forum website to learn more.
