WE ARE MOVING!

We are moving to The Hague in the summer of 2016. Our current location is not very practical and desperately needs renovation. Our address in The Hague will be Balistraat 81B, where we will share the (ground)floor with Wijn op Dronk (wijnopdronk.nl). You will be able to study our prints, books and documents and taste fine wines.

Our shop in Haarlem will remain open at least until March 2016. The exact opening date in The Hague will be announced later. Our opening hours in Haarlem are Saturday from 10.00 to 17.00 and by appointment. This will stay the same in The Hague.

In The Hague we will be close to The Hague Antique and Book Market at the Lange Voorhout. So as from May you can also make an appointment on Sundays.

MORE THAN 500 ITEMS AVAILABLE AT www.antiquariaatvandersteur.nl

We are uploading more and more items to our webshop: old master prints and drawings along with beautiful modern prints. Among these are the beautiful portraits (nos. 60209 and 60208 below) of  Jan van Zuren engraved by Hendrick Goltzius (1558-1617). The intelligent gaze of the Haarlem mayor is captured in two different states (II and III/3 respectively). Fluffy hair and beard and the fur of his cloak are masterfully rendered by the burin of Goltzius who placed an open booklet in van Zuren's (1517-1591) hands, as if to remind viewers that he was also a renowned publisher in the city.

Summer School 2015

History of the Book

Last August, Hugo and Arine attended the Summer School History of the Book organised by the Special Collections Department of Amsterdam University. The Summerschool was highly interesting. Many of the books and prints that were highlighted during the workshops are available at Antiquariaat Van der Steur. One of them is the Borgerlyke Tafel (below left) by Steven Blankaart from 1683, which was discussed in the workshop "Wines through the Ages". Another is the popular catchpenny print (centsprent, below right) that was discussed in the workshop on "St. Nicholas".

SAVE THE DATE!

We will be at "Boeken in de Bavo", the book  fair in the Bavo Church in Haarlem on November 14, 2015 (09.00-17.00). We hope to see you there.

Stay up to date!

We would like to say thank you for your kind and enthusiastic reactions to our first digital newsletter. We will send them around from time to time to keep you up to date on our move to The Hague and our websites.
Please like us on Facebook as we regularly have posts with news, beautiful prints, books and documents.  It's a good way to stay in touch!
