The Success of the Saturday Morning French School

Saturday, September 12, 2015 was the back to school for EFGH classes Memorial Elementary School, 6401 Arnot St, Houston 77007, our new single location. A ribbon cutting ceremony, organized to launch the "Saturday Morning French School", allowed our community to meet, share, and realize that they are part of the "EFGH Family".
15 teachers and  9 dedicated assistants, motivated and animated by the same passion for the French language welcomed 162 students, aged 4-18 years old, divided into classes based on their age and French level. Among them, 129 follow the French Language Program (FLAM) whereas 33 follow the  French Foreign Language Program (FLE).
Our Administrative Team (Christelle Wojciak, Claire Ichanjou, Sabrina Brossard, Michel Nerrant) and Curriculum Coordinators (Sonia Lelarge, Isabelle Bonis et Lisbeth Mauger), and our teachers have done everything possible in the months prior to the back to school to welcome students, answer the parents' questions and provide quality education. Thank you all!
Special thank you to Julie’s French Pastries and Paris Je t’aime bakery for donating the pastries on the first day of school!

Summer Camp 2015, French Immersion Accomplished!

In June and July, for the second consecutive year, EFGH organized its French Immersion Summer Camp. For five weeks, the Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart welcomed 134 children, aged 5 to 10 years old. Under the direction of Marie Crespel and supervised by French counselors, the children were immersed in the French language and French culture through multiple activities and games based on a new theme every week.
Through Harry Potter's world, between magic potion and astronomy, our sorcerer's apprentices sorciers have graduated from the School of Magicians. During the second week, they mixed stories of wolves, Little Red Riding Hood and The Three Little Pigs. Afterwards they wrote their own story and presented it in a puppet show. As budding detectives, the children then went to the discovery of Paris to solve the riddle of the disappearance of the Eiffel Tower. The fourth week, transformed into superheroes, they crafted their own costume, discovered their great power and ultimately created their own comic. To end of summer, they went on the discovery of the 5 continents in 5 days: manufacturing their means of transportation, the little explorers studied different landscapes, animals, cooking and smells of the world.
All the kids loved the relaxed, creative and playful environment exclusively in French that EFGH provided!
Thank you to Marie Legeay who created the 5 week program, to Marie Crespel and the whole Counselors Team (especially Sandra Blackmun, Jessica Llorca and Théo Dumothier present on all 5 weeks) for making this summer camp experience that we long to renew.
Thank you to Jean-François Bonneté, Consular Consellor, and to Frédéric Lefèbvre, Parliamentary Deputy representing French in North America, for the grant that allowed us to set up our summer camp.

BACK TO SCHOOL!

For its sixth year, EFGH innovates... with a brand new newsletter that will allow you to discover the highlights of our association, its projects, and many francophone events that take place in Houston.
In this issue, you can read about the latest summer events: the immersion French camp, the new 2015-2016 school year .
Here is the real big news: EFGH now gathers all children  in a single location. Sometimes coming as far as Sugar Land, Katy, Cypress or The Woodlands... The Saturday morning French school at EFGH becomes the main focal point for families who share the same academic and cultural goals.
There are still a few spots available. If you are interested in EFGH program for your children, do not hesitate to contact us immediately.
Thank you for entrusting EFGH with your child's education in French. To all, we wish a great year of learning French. And see you in December at our Christmas Fair!
