KEY 10th Anniversary Reunion Happy Hour: 10/9
The Center for Entrepreneurship celebrates the 10th anniversary of the Kauffman Entrepreneurial Year (KEY) Scholars Program, a fifth tuition-free year for students to pursue an entrepreneurial endeavor. KEY alumni, current KEY students, KEY faculty advisers, and parents are invited to enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres while networking at a happy hour on Friday, October 9 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. KEY students, both current and past, will share stories of success and lessons learned through the program while the Center will share plans for the future. Learn about the Kauffman Entrepreneurial Year (KEY) program at an information session Friday, October 9 at 4 p.m. in Lattimore 306A. The program offers select students a fifth, tuition-free year of college to pursue entrepreneurial endeavors. The program is supported by the College and the Center for Entrepreneurship. Alum Eric Meyer to Deliver Talk on Disruptive Tech: 10/15
Eric Meyer '12 will deliver a talk, "Disruptive Tech: How Backwards Policy Stifles the Sharing Economy," on Thursday, October 15 at 7:00 p.m. in Schlegel 207. A reception will follow the talk. Eric is the founder and CEO of Haystack, a controversial company legislated out of existence in major cities last year. He is a national contributor to the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, USA Today and CNN, and has been named Maryland Innovator of the Year. Meet with an Entrepreneur-in-Residence this October
Seeking advice from a seasoned entrepreneur? Take advantage of the University of Rochester Entrepreneurs-in-Residence (EIRs) program. Scott Catlin, associate vice president for technology ventures at UR Ventures, will hold office hours on Tuesdays, October 13 and 27 from 1 to 3 p.m. in 1.213 CTSI Director’s Suite in the Saunders Research Building. John Hawkins, vice president of Paramax Corp. and president of Benchview Management Corp., will hold office hours on Tuesday, October 13 and Wednesday, October 21 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Michael Wohl, managing partner of ClimateHedge Investments and Greenspace Capital and associate director of social entrepreneurship for the Simon School, will hold office hours on Thursday, October 22 from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Appointments are required and can be scheduled using our online booking system: book with Scott Catlin; book with John Hawkins; book with Michael Wohl, or by calling 585-276-3500.
UR Community: Apply to the NSF I-Corps Site Training and Grant Program
Got a technical business idea? Students at any level of study, faculty, staff, and alumni are invited to apply to Cohort II of the National Science Foundation (NSF) I-Corps Site program at the University of Rochester. The program provides entrepreneurial training (two required workshops and biweekly meetings) and modest funding ($1,000 to $3,000 grant awards) to enable teams to transition their technical idea into the marketplace. Cohort II will take place during the 2016 spring semester. The application, including an Itemized Financial Plan on how the funds will be used, are due Monday, November 16 at noon via email to Matthew Spielmann.
