Neighborhood Street Tree Care Day

Thank you to everyone who came out on Sept. 27 and participated in our MillionTreesNYC-funded neighborhood community service day. Together, nearly 50 volunteers, friends and family members cleaned up, mulched and watered 150-plus beloved street trees surrounding Elizabeth Street Garden, including those in DeSalvio Playground.

If you are a resident, building owner or local business that would like to help care for and "adopt" a tree in front of your building (It's easy!), please let us know by emailing friends@elizabethstreetgarden.org.

Friends of Elizabeth Street Garden received a 2015 MillionTreesNYC Mini-Grant — one of ten and and the only one awarded in Manhattan. MillionTreesNYC is a PlaNYC initiative with NYC Parks and New York Restoration Project.

LUNGS Harvest Arts Festival & Live Music Sundays

The weekend also included music performances in the Garden as part of the fourth annual Loisaida United Neighborhood Gardens (LUNGS) Harvest Arts Festival. Friends of Elizabeth Street Garden thanks LUNGS founder Charles Krezell for organizing this successful weekend event throughout 38 member gardens.

Thanks to singer-composer and Garden volunteer Kim Kalesti who brought her joyful spirit to sing, musicians Foley, Justin Dean Thomas and Beau, and all of the artists who performed in the Garden this season.

A special thanks to volunteer Joseph Reiver for curating and producing this past season's popular Live Music Sundays concert series.
Tai Chi Outdoors With the Chinatown YMCA

Chinatown YMCA held the last weekly Tai Chi Outdoors class this season in the Garden, and we thank them and instructor Tina C. Zhang for their expertise and commitment to community involvement and participation.

It has been a terrific opportunity to partner with the Chinatown YMCA as part of the Garden's wellness curriculum. We look forward to collaborating again.
