For many, this is one of the most anticipated times of the year. Fall hatches are underway, trout rivers are quiet with consistent action, and anadromous steelhead have made their way back to our neck of the woods. The Clearwater River has been giving up steelhead since late July, and now the Grande Ronde has really come on strong with good numbers from the mouth all the way through Oregon. Yes, there are steelhead beyond Boggan's... they've been there for a couple weeks. We have had great success swinging flies, traditional or leeches, and numerous angler friends have reported the same thing. If you are looking to feel the tight line grab, or watch a fish eat a dry, now is the best time of the year to swing fish.
Trout fishing has been pretty steady to say the least. Since the smoke cleared up in early September and temps cooled down, all the trout rivers around the area have been doing very well. Despite low flows this summer, the NF CDA and St. Joe have held in there and are kicking out some great fishing with fall patterns. Light hatches of mahogany duns, October caddis, bwo's, midges, and caddis will get fish up. Smaller patterns have been best. The other north Idaho panhandle rivers like the NF Clearwater an Kelly have been excellent too for cutthroat and bulls. Our local urban fishery, aka "The Kan" has been doing very well. Fish can be caught during the morning and afternoon hours, however, stay a little later if you can because the evening action has been very consistent with dry/dropper rigs and some sippers in the softer currents.

BEGINNER FLY TYING CLASS
Tying classes are schedule for the fall and winter months now. Beginner classes start this November and will continue through March. The intro class covers all topics from how to use the tools, material selection, and proper techniques. Students will learn 6 different trout flies that will give them a foundation to build on and tie other flies. We include all tools and materials for use in class!
