For the 2016 SF Beer Week (Jan. 22-31), the San Francisco Brewers Guild and its members will be rolling out two collaboration beers for a playful competition pitting SF craft brewers from north of Market Street against those south of Market Street, the well-known dividing line that cuts through the heart of the city. All Guild members will be participating in this friendly face-off (current members listed):

** Embracing the spirt of 2016’s football theme, the locations where collaboration beers will be brewed (indicated with ** above) was determined by coin toss.

See action-packed footage of
Dave McLean from Magnolia Brewing Co. and Kushal Hall from Speakeasy Ales & Lagers in a winner-take-all, toe-to-toe face off at the 2015 Great American Beer Festival to determine who will brew the Team SOMA collaboration beer. No brewers were harmed in the filming of this coin toss.

DRAFT DAY THIS WEDNESDAY

For these collaboration beers, each team will get to use ‘free agent’ base ingredients donated by Brewers Supply Group:  high-quality malt, yeast and hops.

Then, on Wednesday, Nov. 18, at Woods Cerveceria on 18th Street, team captains Dave McLean from Magnolia Brewing Co. (Team Soma) and Mike Schnebeck from Fort Point Beer Co. (Team Noma) will kick off a special installment of the SF Brewers Guild's monthly Meet the Brewers night with an old fashioned Draft Day.

Promptly at 6pm, both captains will announce their team's pre-selected beer styles, flip a coin for first pick, then make their selections from a board of amazing local and artisan ingredients donated by Whole Foods Market.

Each team will alternate selecting up to four specialty ingredients and must use at least two in their collaboration beer. Once an ingredient is selected, like a real Draft Day, it will be removed from the board and no longer available for the other team to use.
