CHRISTMAS

Christmas is just around the corner!  Please send a Christmas Card to us here in South Africa. Being away from family during Christmas can be difficult, but receiving Christmas cards from friends and family in the USA really makes such a difference! Here's our address:

It will require a special stamp, but we promise to reciprocate with a card from South Africa.

Family Update

We are all very excited to be moving to a farm where we will have space for animals and gardens. Isaiah is already busy planning what vegetables he will be growing in his patch of nature.

The big boys are doing great with their swimming lessons and can both swim without any flotation aids. Just in time for summer! Asa recently started swim lessons again. We had tried in March, but he did not like it. Thanks to a great swim teacher who just suggested we take a break and who has continued to get to know him as he attends the big boys' lessons.  Now he has asked to start lessons again. We think he'll learn quickly now that he is willing.

PRAYER REQUESTS
1. Farm purchase: Please continue to pray that the remaining 50% of the purchase price is donated and that we are able to purchase the property with no debt.

2. Car repairs: We are still dealing with car repairs. Please pray for knowledgeable, skilled, and honest mechanics who can finish the repairs close to home.

3. Family: Greg will be traveling Oct 18-22 to set up more preschools in the Eastern Cape. Please remember him and the rest of the family in your prayers during this time.

4. School outreach:  Please continue to pray for someone who can partner with us at the outreaches to lead a couple of songs. Pray that we can get connected to the right person, preferably in the area.

Farm Purchase Update
We have a contract on a farm and have made the 50% down payment. We are still needing donations of $37,500 over the next 6 months to complete the purchase.  There are payments of $12,500 on 1 Jan 2016, 1 March 2016 and 1 May 2016.  To give toward this awesome opportunity to bring sustainability to the people in South Africa, please click here.

Classrooms of Hope

Project with Hand of Hope

Greg has the opportunity to use his engineering background in a new project in partnership with Hand of Hope Ministry.  He is coordinating installation of preschool classrooms created from shipping containers. The containers are fitted with floors and look just like a regular classroom on the inside. Greg is building the foundations for the classrooms, managing the delivery of the container, and fitting it properly onto the foundation. This is all happening in a province called the Eastern Cape, about 4 hours south of our home. He has 22 preschools to set-up, so every month, he'll be traveling for a week to set up these preschools until they are all finished. Its a great project that is meeting a huge need in this province that struggles with providing quality education. These children will have a safe, clean, beautiful new place to begin their schooling journey. Please pray for us as Greg takes these trips - safety for him on the road and at the workplace and for Kristin and the boys at home.

Kristin, holding her niece Annelise, with her sister Sonja
In September, Kristin had an incredible opportunity to attend the Life Women's Conference through a gift from The Life Church of Memphis. It was a spiritually refreshing time for her at the conference, as well as, a lovely occasion to spend time with her family, especially her sister before the birth of her second child. We are thankful for this God-annointed trip!

Water Shortage

Affecting the Poor

Clean running water is something we so often take for granted. It is always there at our finger tips when we want it. The schools and community where we minister do not have the convenience of running water in their houses or schools, instead they must use community taps. These taps are located near the road and people bring containers each day to retrieve the water they will need.

This year, our area of South Africa has been faced with the worst drought since 1992. Recently, on one of our visits to the schools, we discovered that the water to the community taps had been turned off - meaning no one in the area had fresh water!  They had to go to the small lakes to fetch water or travel long distances to purchase water to drink. In the cities, if the water is turned off, trucks bring water around to the residents, but no trucks had been sent to this community. The water remained off for three weeks and was finally turned back on. The water is still being turned off at random times during the day.  Please pray the rainy season that is approaching is enough to refill the dams and lakes that supply water to this area of South Africa.

Sbonga, 11 year old girl from one of the new feeding programs
In our previous newsletter, we shared that we were able to add two new schools to the breakfast feeding program. Gcilima Primary School is one of those new schools and where Sbonga attends school. Sbongo was a very sad girl before the feeding program started. She said she did not have a dream for her future. She did not want to grow up and live the life her family was living; she was in a hopeless place. The family is in a very desperate place; there is no food in the house. The school has tried to help out, but the need is so big. The food at school is all the children get most of the time. Their clothes are worn and she does not have a school uniform.

The feeding program has begun to change her. She is coming to school every day and working harder on her school work. She is beginning to have hope for her future that it can be different. The beautiful smile on her face makes the whole program worth it all.
