Successful 'National Coaches Week' in the Okanagan

Since 2007, British Columbia has celebrated Coaches Week every September to promote the recruitment, development and celebration of coaches in B.C. and the important role they play in sport across the province. Led by ViaSport BC, the event this year featured FREE coach training opportunities, recognition events, contests and a celebration of the work done by coaches across all regions of British Columbia.

Coaches Week in the Okanagan saw a fantastic turnout for the variety of courses that the area had to offer. In Kelowna, PacificSport Okanagan trained 20 coaches and 25+ athletes in both our NCCP Managing Conflict course and Athlete Field Testing/Coach Training workshop. In Vernon, we celebrated the grand opening of the brand new Vernon Athletics facility by hosting a free “Thanks Coach” Lunch that reached 6 local sport organizations (LSO) and over 50 coaches.

The Vernon area also facilitated 4 NCCP Competition - Introduction modules that drew over 40 coaches from 6 LSO’s, including North Okanagan Youth Soccer Association (NOYSA), Kelowna Gymnastics, North Valley Gymnastics, Masters Swimming, Silver Star Ski Club and Vernon Curling. In West Kelowna, our Introduction to Competition Making Ethical Decisions, Planning a Practice & Nutrition courses drew over 50 participants and coaches from Nakusp, Penticton and Summerland.  Our Fundamental Movement Skills courses were also well attended in both Summerland and Vernon as 25+ coaches, teachers, and recreation leaders received their FMS training.

On behalf of PacificSport Okanagan, we would like to Thank All Staff, Volunteers, Coaches, Instructors and Participants for such a great and successful Coaches Week. We cannot wait for next year! #ThanksCoach
