Hello from Heartsparks! We hope you had a great summer and are enjoying the first few chills of fall. We have some exciting programs and stories to share!

SATURDAY SOCIAL GROUPS
We will be offering inclusive group music sessions on Saturdays from November 7 until December 5, 2015 (5 weeks) for children and teens. These groups are an opportunity to make music and play with peers, and are facilitated by our entire team of music therapists. Parents are welcome to participate, or take the opportunity to connect at a nearby cafe. Please email info@heartsparks.ca by October 26th to register. The cost is $120 for 5 sessions. Space is limited (maximum of 4 per group), sorry, no drop-ins. Our studio is accessible for child-sized wheelchairs up to 25 inches width.
Please note our group times:
11:15 am - 12 pm: Ages 7-10
12:30 pm - 1:15 pm: Ages 3-6
1:45pm - 2:30 pm: Ages 11-16
3 pm- 3:45 pm: Parent/child relaxation group (all ages)

TEAM NEWS
We are wishing the best of luck to Kate Morin, who has started her first semester in the Speech-Language Pathology (Masters of Science) program at Dalhousie University. All the best, Kate!
We are so happy that Paige Morrissey, who recently completed her internship with Heartsparks, has joined our team! Paige is currently providing services at HomeBridge Youth Society and is facilitating a pilot project with the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia. Paige has lots of openings for new clients.

WELCOME TO OUR NEW INTERNS
Laurenn Marchand, BA Mus, BA, CMT, holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music (2013) from Saint Francis Xavier University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Certificate of Music Therapy (2015) from Acadia University where she graduated on the Dean’s List. During her time at Acadia, Laurenn was also the recipient of the Clara McLearn Blakeley Music Scholarship (2013) for her demonstration of leadership qualities and involvement in community activities.
Laurenn is currently completing her music therapy internship with Heartsparks Music Therapy where she is working at Wee Care Developmental Centre, The Sagewood Continuing Care Community, and other various locations around the HRM. Outside of music therapy, Laurenn is an active singer/songwriter, who will be releasing her debut EP in early 2016.
Alison Smiley, BMT, is originally from Aurora, Colorado. She first attended the School for Musical Vocations at Southwestern Community College, and then completed her bachelor’s degree in Jazz studies and performance at Saint Francis Xavier University (2012). Alison is currently attending The University of Kansas, working towards her master’s degree in Music Therapy.
As part of her masters degree, Alison is a current intern at Heartsparks Music Therapy where she works at Wee Care Developmental Centre, HomeBridge Youth Society, Akoma Family Centre, Conductive Education with March of Dimes Canada, and with private clients in the community. Alison is an active vocalist with a classical and jazz background with a great passion for improvised music. In her practice as a music therapist, Alison strives to support and empower every client she works with.

SAVE THE DATE: HOLIDAY GATHERING
We are excited to announce that we will be hosting our 2nd annual Holiday Gathering on Saturday, December 12, 2015. The event will feature Heartsparks client talent, a group sing-a-long, and festive fun! Location and time TBA.
