Ecotourism Plan being reviewed
NPAQ understands the Queensland Ecotourism Plan 2013-2020, which relies heavily on protected areas, is being reviewed to reflect current State Government policies. 

NPAQ will provide links to the revised Plan when it is available.
 
George N Batianoff Award presented to weed volunteers
The Tablelands National Park Volunteers have received the George Batianoff Award (for Team Excellence) for their work on eradicating coffee plants from the Lake Eacham and Lake Barrine sections of the Crater Lakes National Park.  This exotic plant forms up to 75% of critically endangered Mabi rainforests that occur in the Park.  The moral of this story - drink tea, not coffee!

New chair of the Wet Tropics Management Authority
Leslie Shirreffs has been appointed as the new chair of the Wet Tropics Management Authority.  Ms Shirreffs has extensive experience in World Heritage and protected area management, and was instrumental in phasing out broad-scale land clearing more than a decade ago.

Negotiations continue to preserve endangered lowland rainforest in a section of Beerwah State Forest known locally as the Mooloolah Logging Area.
