‘Adopting a More Conscious Approach to Better Decision Making: Counteracting Unconscious Bias in the Legal Profession’
Guest Speaker: Heather Price, CEO, Symmetra

5.30pm Tuesday 13th October 2015
Bartier Perry, L10, 77 Castlereagh Street, Sydney

We make errors of judgement every single day because of the design of the machinery of our thinking. Whilst we can’t rewire our brains to eradicate unconscious bias, we can subject all our talent management, practice management and legal decisions to greater scrutiny to counteract unconscious bias from impacting on the quality of these decisions, and in so doing, optimise performance. This session will explore the cycle of bias in the legal profession and how to construct a decision making process that counteracts it.

A dynamic businesswoman, Heather Price (pictured) established one of the first and most successful diversity consultancies in South Africa during the dismantling of apartheid. She established Symmetra (www.symmetra.com.au) in Australia in 2003 which, under her leadership, has become recognised as a global premier provider in Diversity and Inclusion. Over the past 20 years, Heather Price has cemented her reputation both locally and internationally as an energising and highly respected thought leader in this fast-growing industry. She is a regular presenter at international conferences and to executive leadership teams around the world, the author of numerous publications and has been repeatedly nominated onto the expert panel ratifying the Global Diversity and Inclusion Benchmark Tool.

Heather brings invaluable international insights into emerging diversity issues, designing and implementing strategic inclusion interventions with a wide array of blue chip corporations and professional service firms (auditing and law) around the globe. She is renowned for her ‘out of the box’ approach to effective and measurable transformation within workplace cultures, utilising unique technological innovations and up-to-the-minute research, along with her exceptional ability to communicate, challenge and engage with all levels of the organisation from the C-suite to the front line.

Heather has been engaged by many top tier law firms to consult on diversity strategy and address unconscious bias.
