Beat the Build-up! Last days for Darwin’s free energy assistance program

Low income residents are encouraged for call COOLmob this week to register their interest for their free home energy assistance project Smart Cooling in the Tropics.

Eligible households in Darwin and Palmerston receive a free home energy assessment AND a complimentary service such as air conditioning cleans, ceiling fans and shading.

“Registrations close next week!” says Project Manager Jessica Steinborner.

“And with only 15 places remaining we are encouraging eligible residents to contact us this week to secure their place”.

“We have delivered well over 400 free home energy assessments and complimentary services for eligible households, says Ms Steinborner.

“The project is receiving lots of positive feedback, with participating householders reporting that they are now feeling much cooler and more comfortable in their homes”, says Ms Steinborner.

If you receive an approved Centrelink payment or have a low income healthcare card, live in Greater Darwin and are not living in public housing, then you may be eligible for the program.

“If you struggled through this last wet season with your electricity bills, we strongly encourage you to contact us to check their eligibility.  ” says Ms Steinborner.

“We’re excited that this project is gathering tried and tested solutions that could support hundreds of Territorians to reduce their energy use and stay cool in the hot and humid tropics”, says Project Manager Jessica Steinborner.

COOLmob’s Smart Cooling in the Tropics is a project of the Environment Centre NT, the Territory’s peak community environment group.  The project is funded by the Australian Government.
