Congratulations to...
* Hampshire Scouts Present…on a phenomenal show at Winchester Guildhall on Sunday evening which brought together the talents of Scout Shows from across Hampshire for one amazing evening. It was a packed house and was given a standing ovation from the Lord-Lieutenant, High Sheriff, and Mayors. Congratulations to Scott Marshall and his team for dreaming the dream and then delivering an awesome event - well done to Andover Gang Show, Basingstoke Gang Show, Fareham Marching Band, Hedge End Gang Show, and Roverang.

* Scout Winter Camp on their triumphant return with an activity filled camp at Lyons Copse - fantastic feedback from the Scouts and the leaders, and no mud !! Thanks to Dom and his ever-expanding team for making it happen.

* Flappy Fish Jamboree Unit on a great reunion camp, black-tie dinner, and cool presentation to a packed hall of parents about their Jamboree adventures, best times, and funniest times - and many thanks from the Unit to Ant, Claire, Emma and Russell for their leadership.

* Tanzania 2017 on a full Leader Selection weekend, and on a flood of applications from participants on Friday night just before the deadline. I was amazed and really pleased by the breadth of experience and enthusiasm of the Leaders, including many previous trips to Africa.

* The 14th Eastleigh Spitfires band on a superb concert on Saturday evening - they filled the church with the rich sound of the band, and gave a packed audience a really great evening. And the young soloists were amazing.
County Membership subscription 2016
As you are aware, from 2016 only young people under the age of 18 years will pay HQ membership subscriptions, and we have already advised us that their fee will be £25.50 per head (less 50p if paid on time). This equates to a 0% increase on the total 2015 figure.

At their meeting on Tuesday 13th October, Hampshire County the County Executive Committee, agreed to adopt the same payment policy.

Therefore the County membership fee for 2016 will be £9.70 per head, payable by all members under the age of 18 years only. This also equates to a 0%  (zero percent) increase on the total 2015 figure. Please note this is the second year in a row the County Membership has not increased.

Creative Activities

‘Well, what a fantastic weekend for Creative Activities!!!

On Saturday  14th Eastleigh ‘Spitfires’ Scout & Guide Band performed in concert at Chandlers Ford Methodist Church and what a great job they did!
Great to see such a positive turn out for their performance which  provided a huge genre of music from the traditional marching band style you might expect right through to numbers from Disney, Musicals and even Michael Jackson.  Well done to Greg Walker (Director of Music) and his team, and of course the talented musicians that performed, and thank you to all those that supported the event.

Click on the link below for a review of the evening and also some dates for the diary of just some of their future performances.

Sunday brought a new adventure for Hampshire Scouting with Scouts (and Guides) from all over our County coming together to perform for a jam packed audience at the beautiful Winchester Guildhall for Hampshire Scouts Present. This was a brand new event for Hampshire Scouts, bringing together creative talents from all over our County , featuring Andover Gang Show, Basingstoke Gang Show, Hedge End Gang Show, Roverang Scout & Guide Show and also Fareham Scout Band who treated the audience (and many a passer-by) to a pre-show performance on the Guildhall’s beautiful Victoria staircase; what an excellent way to let Winchester know that Hampshire Scouts were ‘in town’ by parading them in the middle of the City. The adventure continued throughout the evening with some excellent performances from all involved bringing song, comedy, dance, tears and laughter that literally brought members of the audience to their  feet with a standing ovation during its finale, well done to all involved.

Thank you to all those that supported Hampshire Scouts Present and if you liked what you saw, or indeed were unable to attend to see just what great talent we have here in our County, here are some dates for your diary of our participating districts own  productions which shouldn’t be missed.

Basingstoke Gang Show: 11th – 20th February, The Hay Market, Basingstoke
Hedge End Gang Show: 17th - 20th February, Wyvern Technological College
Roverang Scout & Guide Show: 5th – 9th April, Nuffield Theatre, Southampton

Well done to all involved, and as always, if you have a creative activity you would like support and/or promotion then please get in touch – creative@scouts-hants.org.uk

Keep Smiling!

Gone Home
It is with great sadness that we have heard that Jill Walden has lost her fight with Motor Neurone Disease and passed away at the end of last week.

Jill has been Beaver Leader with 21st Romsey (Nursling and Rownhams) since 1992 and before that with 15th Romsey (North Baddesley).

A testament to the quality of the programme and the continuous hard work Jill has put into the running of the Beavers is seen in the numbers of young people who have enjoyed and benefitted from her leadership.  Number have always remained healthy and peaked to such high numbers that a second colony starting at 21st Romsey earlier this year.

Jill did not just run an active programme each week, but also involved the Beavers with community events and fundraising for the group.  Jill enthused the Beavers to join in with these events such as the community May Day and senior citizens Christmas party each year, in addition to tidying up the grounds around the local lakes and in the local church yard each year.  In addition to this, each year near Christmas Jill arranged for the Beavers to sing Christmas Carols at a  senior citizens nursing home in the local community…and were always asked to come back.

All the Beavers that have been part of Jill’s colonies over the years have loved her and she was awarded the Scout Associations “Award for Merit” last year for her exceptional service to Scouting.

Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends and Kerrie and the team at 21st Romsey at this very sad time.  We will send details of Jill’s funeral arrangements as soon as they have been confirmed.

Yours in Scouting,

John Papworth,
District Commissioner Romsey

We've got 2 voyages we are looking to fill as we are very short of people for both. I would be very appreciative if you could send out the following.

''We are working on a project to refresh the Leadership @ Sea Program and are looking for people under 25 to sign up on either LN884 or LN885 to participate in the scheme and to report back their experience and feedback once home again.

We would like to invite you to sail with us as a member of the voyage crew and participate in the Leadership@Sea programme in full. This is something that can be included on your CV once done and would be of invaluable assistance to the honing of the JST L@S program.

The cost for the sailing will be covered by a sailing bursary but you would need to get to and from the ship and get travel insurance at your own cost and we would ask that you contribute a donation of £100.00 minimum to join in. If you wish to participate on both voyages out to Las Palmas just ask! If you decide to take up the offer on both voyages we can only offer L@S on one trip - but we would require the donation to sail as a thank you for joining.
