Ordering opens soon!

November 1st (just two weeks away!) we will be standing by, ready to answer your questions and reserve your Ginger, Turmeric and Exotics.

Prices will be posted on October 25th. We promise not to do anything crazy in price town, but we must account for our rising shipping costs, demand, and the labor involved in some of the items. Our goal is to offer the best product available for the best price possible. Remember that FedEx 2-day shipping to your doorstep is included in the pricing, so no hidden fees will be added on!

A large Khing Yai rhizome with its dark green foliage and little sprouts

We are having a very good growing season,

especially after last years hurricane and lava threat. The flow was headed straight for our farm and we really thought the lava was going to cover it. As a result of that threat, we expanded and added different growing locations, vowing "not to put all of our eggs in one basket.” It was a lot of work, but our crops look great (and personally, our stress level has gone down to an appropriate level).

Additionally, we are trialing some new varieties of ginger and turmeric which are certainly exciting to us, and we think you will be thrilled with them too! With the growing demand for ginger, having a few different varieties may give you an advantage as far as offering a unique ginger or turmeric specifically suited to your purpose (say an especially high gingerol hot rhizome used for that incredible ginger ale and beer, or a fragrant varietal for your spice mixture). The cool thing is that ginger is not a one dimensional brown potato looking thing that it once was to American consumers. Overall, we are very pleased to be able to offer something new for y’all!

Turmeric is HOT these days and we are seeing some good results in the mainland with this rhizome.

It seems to take longer to sprout and finish later, so it's best to grow it somewhere you can have some control over temperature.

Our ordering process will also be streamlined and we will require you to choose a second choice on some varieties. This is because estimating stock levels in the months prior to harvest is no easy task. That being said, we were able to increase our plantings this season which means we are better able to complete your requests with minimal substitutions, if any. Lora (our order manager) has done a great job tackling this 500 pound kitten.

New Growing Guides and Instructions

We are finally closing in on a good set of growing instructions for those new to ginger cultivation, or if you just want some tips to help optimize your time and effort. The new guide should be available by the New Year so please be patient as trying to extract what is inside our heads is a somewhat messy procedure (Happy Halloween by the way!)

We have had a few reports of wire worms chewing into ginger in the eastern states, so we will be looking at effective strategies to help deal with these critters. If you have any specific questions about your conditions or the issues you’re facing there, please don’t hesitate to ask!

Young Bubba Blue in all of its beauty! This variety performs excellently, both for us and for many other growers in different climatic zones

We are looking forward to helping you grow in 2016! Aloha from the Puna Organics team :)
