Resuscitation Council Guidelines Update 2015

You may be aware that the UK Resus Council issued updated BLC/CPR guidelines recently. Now that we have had time to digest them, there are very little changes. The most notable items are the emphasis on sending for an AED(Automated External Defibrillator). They are also reminding that compressions only CPR is for the untrained, first aiders should still do breaths and compressions where possible.

Edexcel First Person on Scene (FPOS)

Several people have asked us about the FPOS suite of qualifications that comes under Edexcel. They had heard various rumours that the FPOS qualifications were stopping. This is not the case as confirmed by Edexcel. They are currently developing a new structure for the FPOS suite to bring it up to date.

Faulty defibrillators costing lives

It is believed that up to a quarter of all defibrillators placed in public places do not work. A study from the United States has found that this was usually down to flat batteries, damage or software malfunctions. Similar results were found in Australia, it is a safe bet to assume this would be similar in the UK. It is important to remember that the defibrillator pads must also be checked on the expiry date to ensure they are sticky and still have the conductive gel in good condition.

New Courses - FPOS E

We are continually developing new courses to fit with the needs of our clients. As such, the latest course that will soon be added to our portfolio is the First Person on Scene Enhanced (FPOS E) course from Edexcel. This will be approximately a 3 week course with a pre-requisite of holding FPOS I first. We anticipate that this course will be ready within the next couple of months.
