Welcome to the October issue of the Healthy Oxford Hills Newsletter.

What a glorious time of year in the Oxford Hills!  Country fairs, leaves turning and painting our hillsides bright yellow, red and orange - just begging us to get out for a walk or a hike -  and all of the bounty of farms and gardens coming to our tables.  With the changes of season, we have a few changes here at HOH to let you know about.  I am delighted to introduce our new Office Manager and Health Promotion Coordinator, Jessica Abbott.  Jessica is the voice you will most likely hear when you call our office, and she is diving into the role of being our communications clearinghouse.  This is her first HOH Newsletter!

We are also in the process of hiring a new full-time Health Promotion Coordinator for Substance Abuse Prevention.  That will give us a full roster of staff for the first time in 10 months!  One part of this new Coordinator's role will be continuing our support and integration of effort with the Western Maine Addiction Task Force, a new collaborative effort focused on impacting the heroin and other opiate abuse and addiction problem that is growing in our region and the State.  I am so encouraged that the WMATF is comprised of so many community members and sectors, and that there is a shared understanding that this is a complex challenge that will take all of us working together in new and creative ways to solve.

Please read on to learn more about these and other initiatives to partner with you, our community neighbors, to create the healthy, vital and connected lives we all want.

In good health,

Jim

News from the Wellness Collaborative

Yikes! The Semiannual Gathering is only 2 days away! Have you registered yet to let us know that you're coming? If not, please take a moment to do so now.

It's important that we know how many are coming so that we have the right amount of food. We're happy to announce that Anna Sysko, who catered our last gathering in March at Telstar High School, will again be providing food for us!

We'll also be providing on-site childcare. If you plan on bringing a kid or two, please be in touch with Brendan Schauffler at 739-6222 to let him know. He'll make sure that there are enough caretakers to keep an eye on the kids.

As part of making it easier for everyone to attend, the Collaborative is also pleased to offer help with transportation expenses and arranging carpool options. If you'd like to take advantage of this, please call Brendan at 739-6222.

We hope to see you there!

Be well,
The Oxford County Wellness Collaborative
