Town council keen to help police with town accommodation when
police station closes
Epping Town Council is keen to try and help the police with alternative accommodation arrangements once the town's police station closes.
The council is to liaise with Epping Forest District Council over possible co-location arrangements.
The town council has said it is not in a position to purchase the police station - which had been highlighted as an option by Essex Police - now that it has been declared surplus to police requirements.
Councillor Jon Whitehouse said: "We're not in the position to bid for the building but I hope we are in a position to accommodate police officers.
"If there is any facility in the St Johns Road development to provide some facility for police officers we should look at it in partnership with others."
Councillor Hugh Pegrum said: "It's not the building so much as the function.
"At the end of the day we are going to be without a police station in Epping, Ongar and Waltham Abbey.
"Somehow or another we need with others to find a way to accommodate a police presence."
