Huge congratulations are in order this month. Three of our Poetry Salon Poets have won contests this past month, and Alexis Rhone Fancher has a new book coming out soon. (See more in the celebrations block below!)  Also we have a class reading on November 15th and a new workshop with acclaimed Poet Tony Gloeggler the next day!  

Classes are producing their usual bumper crop of great poetry.  So lovely to share this universe with such creatively alive people!  Check out the links and jump in!

Writing The Quintessential Narrative Poem

The workshop will explore:
*Where the impetus comes from.
*How to establish an intimate relationship with the reader.
*The difference between being factual in poems and conveying truth.
*How to create a sense of urgency in your poems.
*Writing the “unpleasant, revelatory stuff about people & the thinking behind it.”
*How to write about what matters, as if you're sharing some intimate secret.

Biography:  Life long New Yorker, Tony Gloeggler manages group homes for the developmentally disabled in Brooklyn. Find his poems in The Raleigh Review, Rattle (12 times!!!), the Chiron Review, the New York Quarterly (27 times!!), Mas Tequila Review, Nerve Cowboy, and Paterson Literary Review. He’s been nominated for Pushcarts a handful of times and would like to know who he needs to talk to to have chance to actually get one. He has three full length collections (ONE WISH LEFT/Pavement Saw Press, THE LAST LIE/NYQ Books, and NYQ Books /UNTIL THE LAST LIGHT LEAVES) and a ‘Duo’ with the photographer Marco North at Bittersweet Editions.

If you've got an individual project, a handful of poems you want help with or just can't make the other classes with your schedule, here are the rates for working with me one-on-one:

Workshop: (The same material you get in the group workshop, but on your time-frame, and with all the focus on your work!) six one-hour sessions, $397.

One-on-One Mentoring If you have a package of poems you are trying to polish up for publication, this is a great way to get them finished and ready to send out. I work with you via e-mail to suggest edits, new ideas, and help you achieve your vision. You can send me re-writes of your poems as many times as you like, until you feel they are DONE and ready to go.)  $397/ 11 poems

Huge Congratulations to the Success of Our Fellow Poets!


Kelly Grace Thomas has won the Los Angeles Poet Society's 4th annual Summer Poetry Contest with her submission How to Eat a Mango in July.  And it looks like this was a Poetry Salon rout, since student Estella Ramirez is the runner up with her poem Bree Newsome

Roz Levine has had her poem Remembering the Laurel Tree accepted into the International Journal for English Language Ghazals. 

Mary Rose Smyth placed honorable mention in Jack Grapes' 3rd Annual Poetry Prize in Cultural Weekly with her poem Liberty!

Judith Remy Leder was published online as part of a project called “Lament for the Dead.” commemorating the death of every person killed by police this summer, and every police officer who loses life in the line of duty.  Her contribution was titled Unintended Consequences.

Peggy Carter  is all over the magazine Stray Branch, placing her poem Falling Darkness in the current Fall/Winter 2015 issue and six more works coming in the Fall/Winter 2016 installment.  She also placed two poems in the Black Poppy Review - Askew and Awake in the Dark.

Lois York's book "Stitching Up The Blues" will be available in November through Amazon

Alexis Fancher's chapbook about her son, State of Grace: The Joshua Elegies, (KYSO Flash Press,) publishes on Nov. 1st.  She was nominated for three Best of The Net Awards for 2015, and her more recent work can be found in the following publications:
