The Founder's Heart

The Founder's Heart

Grace and Greetings Beloved,

When I think of how amazed I am by God’s grace, truly, my joy overflows! However, every now and then we enter into a season where unmerited favor is abundant.  Since starting H.O.M.E. a year ago, we’ve experienced highs and lows, heard heart-wrenching stories, endured challenges, and learned to appreciate the sacrifices that come with being a servant.  But, more importantly, I have witnessed the gracious spirit of what it really means to have a ‘Heart like His.’

When this ministry began we knew the road would not be easy.  My husband and I worked before sunrise and well into the late wee hours.  We dodged raindrops, chilly winds and sweltering heat—vowing never to complain.  During that time God sent a true Angel into our lives.  She not only caught the vision, but exemplifies just as much passion and love, as we do, for the labor set before us.  She too has worked well into the night to help bear our heavy load.  In fact, often, while we were asleep, she was awake burning the midnight oil creating flyers, designing banners, crafting invitations, posting to social media, securing sponsors, preparing for events and the list goes on.

You see, like seasons’ change, every now and then God sends into our lives one who is extraordinarily worthy of being called an “every now and then.” Carolyn Tolbert has been a rare jewel sent divinely into our lives, joined our mission, rolled up her sleeves and served tirelessly—all with joy and laughter.  Leotis and I are so deeply grateful that God chose her to be our sister and friend.  And we are honored to announce that Carolyn Tolbert has officially accepted the role as Partner with this organization.

Carolyn, we love you—we appreciate you—we welcome you H.O.M.E.!

And now these three remain:
faith, hope and love.
But the greatest of these is love.

Pearl of the Quarter

Struggles have a way of giving birth to powerful testimonies in our lives, and I’m so elated that Ricinda (Cindy) Woodley, a thirty-three-year-old single mother of three, desires to inspire us with hers.  With her usual infectious smile, Cindy shares the memories of being a “country girl” born and raised right here in Atlanta, Georgia.  Cindy radiates a beautiful spirit and positive demeanor—however, nothing could have prepared her for the challenges of life after divorce.

Four years ago, this was the very situation that began Cindy’s spiral into the heartache and hardship of losing everything she had—including her precious little girls.  A single mother, trying to work two jobs, make ends meet, and maintain her family left her vulnerable to insufficient childcare. While working on a part-time job, which ended at 1am, she left them home alone with the oldest daughter in charge.  That night resulted in a phone call that changed her life forever.  When she got home they were gone—taken by their dad.

Cindy was devastated when she lost custody of her girls due to reports of child abandonment.  “After losing my children I gave up on everything…” she recalls. “My kids were the center of my world; bills begin to pile up—within one year everything was gone,” she continued. Cindy is indeed a resilient woman.  She expressed how God used this time to make her a better mother and gave her the courage to fight.  “I remember getting out of my car one night; it was very dark and a full moon… I just screamed out to God to help me!”

Today, she is truly picking up the pieces and rebuilding her life.  She is taking back her authority and grateful to God for teaching her how to love and nurture her girls—Crysta (14) a song writer, Camari (11) an aspiring teacher, and Cyniia (9) an avid reader and gymnast.  Cindy’s prayer is that they will grow up to be Proverbs 31 women.  In closing she states, “Life almost made me lose my fight—I don’t ever want them to lose their fight.”

We are proud to announce
Ricinda (Cindy) Woodley
as our ‘Pearl of the Quarter’
