October 2015: Book on Sale; Divination Coming

Rose Moon & Death on the Toilet: copies are shipping.

In fact, sales may soon reach double digits! Besides the special offer from Stikmantica (see the link at right), the title can be ordered readily from the big online vendors—if that is the way you must go. Indie booksellers, for some reason, still have trouble locating order information. Identify the book by title and ISBN 978-0-9838137-4-3 to help your favorite independent bookstore penetrate the cloud of unknowing. Audiobook and ebook versions remain in development.

HELP! I *still* need your help.

FIRST, please buy a book. Your immediate purchase of the RM&DotT package will help sustain continuing publication and production of the Stikmantic harvest.

SECOND, write a review. Even a single sentence on Goodreads or a bookseller's website can magnify a title's profile. You don't have to say much to make a difference.

THIRD, please report errors! Please let me know of any typographic problems you find. In a couple of months, I'll compile the mistakes, make the fixes, and upload corrected text.

"Robert Stikmanz is perhaps the best author you've never heard of."
–Paul E. Cooley, author of The Black

Next Up: Nod's Way, 2nd edition

Project Number One at HQ these days is a new edition of the ancient oracle book of the Dvarsh, Nod's Way, or Hidden Dragon. This will not be a complete redesign such as I long to do; rather, look forward to a reset of the core material from the first edition with a completely new introduction, a slightly expanded set of ancillary texts and diagrams, and a new cover. Careful eyes will also note correction of a couple annoying changes in text introduced by the original publisher. Target publication date is the coming winter solstice. This is only a little crazy so close on the heels of RM&DotT.

A Translation

No doodlage from the past month achieved a state worth sharing. Phooey on me. Instead of a drawing, below is my translation of "En el Baño," by the great Mexican poet, Manual María Flores (1840-1885). Like this poem, much of his verse sprang from his relationship with the legendary muse of Mexican Romanticism, Rosario de la Peña. Of all the poets and artists who loved her, it was Flores that she loved back.

In the Bath

Happy and alone in the soft bend
the river forms among the trees,
in the cool shelter of the shady branches
the girl of my love is bathing.

Playing mischievously with the waves,
she draws her bust from the icy pool
and laughs, and the glacial dew splashes
her white breast with trembling blush.

To see such beauty, hardly whispering
among the foliage the wind turns,
the wild bird leaps trilling,

the sun little by little withdraws;
everything falls silent...and Love, slyly watching
through the branches, sighs.

Above: Lo, n. - shadow
Below: Yets, n. - shape

Lo and Yets are the two simplest consonant characters of written Dvarsh. Lo is considered progenitor of all other rising glyphs, as Yets is considered progenitor of the falling. Both are formed from incomplete leaf shapes, but rather than partial leaves, these characters are viewed as partly eclipsed, which is the way most leaves are actually seen. No eclipsing form is rendered, because the Dvarsh, too, believe thoroughgoing consistency is a preoccupation of small minds. Orthographically, Lo corresponds to English "L" and Yets to English consonantal "Y."
