Avian Influenza Management for Pastured Poultry Producers
Wednesday, October 14, 6:00-8:00PM

This workshop will offer a comprehensive overview of HPAI issues for the pasture environment. Attendees will learn best practices to prevent infection, as well as their rights and responsibilities should an outbreak occur on their farm. Speakers will include: Mike Badger, executive director of APPPA and successful pastured poultry farmer; Susan Beal, holistic livestock health specialist and DVM; and Patty Dunn, avian pathologist at Penn State University and DVM. Staff from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture and PASA will also be on hand to help answer questions and facilitate discussion.

Do you know someone who could support PCO’s mission and represent the membership? Please consider nominating them using our online form.
PCO values a diverse board that supports the mission of PCO and represents the membership by having a balance of interests. For the non-certified-member seats, we can invite organic producers who are certified by another agency. Board members are elected for a 3-year term and are eligible to serve a total of 2 consecutive terms. To learn more about our current board members, click here.

Areas of particular need identified by the board are below; however, nominations should not be limited to these areas:
• Processor/Handler producer
• Foundation fundraising
• Organic poultry producer
• Person with human resource experience
• 2nd or 3rd generation organic farmer
• Organic vegetable producer

Nominations will be submitted to the Governance Committee for review.

Director of Education and Outreach
Pennsylvania Certified Organic (PCO) announces a job opening for Director of Education and Outreach. This position will lead the Education and Outreach Team and oversee PCO’s resource development, education and outreach, and marketing and public relations, which includes supervisory duties for Education and Outreach staff. The ideal candidate will have education and experience in the following areas: writing proposals and securing funding, conducting community education and outreach, and leading marketing initiatives. We are looking for a well-organized and self-motivated person to join our team. This position is based in our Spring Mills, PA office but remote work locations within central and southeastern Pennsylvania will be considered.

This is a full-time, exempt position.

Salary: $55,000 – $60,000, depending on experience.

Materials Program Manager
Pennsylvania Certified Organic (PCO) announces a job opening for Materials Program Manager. This position will oversee PCO’s material review program, including the publication of PCO Materials Lists, developing policies relevant to material review under the organic regulations, and will actively perform material review. The ideal candidate will have education and experience in the following areas: knowledge of materials used in organic production and processing, familiarity with regulatory compliance and organic certification, knowledge of organic standards. We are looking for a well-organized and self-motivated person to join our team-oriented environment in Spring Mills, Pennsylvania; telecommuting will be considered. The planned start date for this position is Dec 2015.
 
This is a full-time, exempt position.

Salary range: $45,000 – 55,000, depending on experience.

Certification Program Manager

This position will also be responsible for maintaining policies to be consistent with federal regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will have education and experience in the following areas: familiarity with regulatory compliance and organic certification, knowledge of organic standards. We are looking for a well-organized and self-motivated person to join our team-oriented environment in Spring Mills, Pennsylvania (on-site preferred; telecommuting considered). The planned start date for this position is Dec 2015.

This is a full-time, exempt position.
