We want to upgrade our support structure and accountability for continued effective ministry. I've started writing more frequent "mini" updates; subscribe here if you want more emails from me. Pictured above is the renovated airport in Phnom Penh.

Upgrades must take place in both issues of budget and accountability. We've been ok as Korean missionaries go but the last few months have been especially discouraging; here's a nice explanation of missionary budgets, fyi. Great thanks to those of you who've been supporting financially! Agencies work hard to support and supervise missionaries, but putting myself in the shoes of the supporters, I wonder if they can also act as a bottleneck.

Seeking an alternative agency doesn't sound fun. But I informed the GP directors in my recent quarterly report of my intention to do so. There was no decisive response to my request for a status adjustment from active or full time to associate. I might never find an agency that suits me, and I feel too old to try to fit into one; I may go independent, perhaps relying on technology for more direct accountability with donors and supporters-- prayers please.

I also informed GP of my concern for their Confucian reliance on me to act as a broker between them and my aging parents in Chonburi Center; basically, I told them they're on their own, that if they don't want to supervise older missionaries out of Confucian deference, it's their decision as supervisors. I love my parents and have been very open and direct with my own concerns for them as my parents; but I'm not their GP supervisor.

Our second term ends this summer. We can check out my "ministry page" to see the visiting teams and major events this summer. I plan to visit America for furlough in late August, spending one month in the West Coast and one month in the East. Lydia will go to Los Angeles earlier. Sarah and Timothy may join her depending on his academic progress; otherwise they'll stay in Bangkok.

I wish to visit all of you, but also not be a burden. Please email me at paulmkim@gmail.com if you (or your group) would like me to visit. In 2010 I had to cancel my last month in America to rush back to my father who was in the ICU after a car accident; even before then I had advised him not to drive. He still drives, and I informed him that I will not cancel my plans to fly back if he gets into a car accident again.

General Updates

  • We changed the name of our Bible study groups to OLC.SCS to reflect our partnership with Todd's English language center in Silom.
  • Here's a recent issue of Hopeline Magazine from Global Hope in English, including updates from Nepal. Prayerfully consider making a donation for my expenses as the field director for GH in 2016. You can donate online here; please let me know so I can plan.
  • Consider making a financial donation to HelpLive or InSearchofSanuk.
  • Some insightful thoughts on short-term (and long term) missions work here.
  • Timothy is as tall as me as of today.

Please pray that

  1. God will send partners to help teach the OLC.SCS Bible study groups in Silom and even other parts of Bangkok.
  2. God will give us wisdom as we evaluate everything.
  3. God will continue to raise Lydia as a servant of God as she heads off to college this summer.
