Vorige week ontving je van ons
deze nieuwsbrief over het voorstel van de Stichting Cultuur Eindhoven om de subsidie voor CKE te halveren. In de eerste plaats willen wij jullie bedanken voor de vele steunbetuigingen die wij hierop ontvingen. Jullie blijk van verbondenheid met CKE doet ons goed. Daardoor kunnen we samen een sterk tegengeluid laten horen.
In deze nieuwsbrief praten we je bij over de actuele ontwikkelingen. We willen graag benadrukken dat alles wat nu speelt, gaat over de periode vanaf 2017. Het heeft dus geen directe gevolgen voor de lessen of cursus(sen) die je op dit moment bij ons volgt.
Samen veranderen en innoveren
Onze eerste nieuwsbrief heeft dus het een en ander losgemaakt. Ook de Stichting Cultuur Eindhoven (SCE) heeft gereageerd en stelt dat in de concept-cultuurbrief geen sprake is van een bezuiniging. Het geld wordt anders verdeeld en voor een deel klopt dat. Het totale budget voor cultuur verandert niet, maar er wordt wel degelijk bezuinigd op kunsteducatie in de vrije tijd. Daar hoeft volgens SCE geen subsidie meer naartoe; er blijft wel geld beschikbaar voor cultuureducatie op de scholen. Ook CKE is voor een andere aanpak, daarin verschillen wij niet van mening. De route en het resultaat zijn wel verschillend. Samen met andere partijen in de stad willen wij veranderen en innoveren. Mét behoud van een rijk aanbod op het gebied van kunsteducatie.
Ruimte voor de markt
In het Eindhovens Dagblad van vandaag stelt SCE ook dat Eindhoven vele niet gesubsidieerde aanbieders van kunsteducatie heeft die onze taken kunnen overnemen. Denk bijvoorbeeld aan particuliere muziek- en dansscholen en aan privédocenten die ook goede lessen en cursussen verzorgen. CKE kent die aanbieders en biedt ze alle ruimte. We doen minder zelf en werken steeds vaker samen met particuliere aanbieders. In overleg met de gemeente zijn we daar jaren geleden al mee begonnen. En daar gaan we mee door.
Goed en zorgvuldig
Wie wil leren op het gebied van de kunsten kan in Eindhoven kiezen uit tal van docenten die binnen of buiten CKE werken. Als de plannen doorgaan, dan verandert dat. Lessen en cursussen volgen kan dan alleen nog maar buiten CKE. De concept-cultuurbrief spreekt van een snelle en radicale breuk vanaf 2017. CKE stopt, de markt neemt het over. We geloven dat dit voor een deel kan, maar we geloven níet in snel en radicaal. Wij kiezen liever voor goed en zorgvuldig. Niet breken maar bewegen. Daardoor wordt de continuïteit gewaarborgd en alles wat daarbij hoort: aanwezige vakkennis, didactische en pedagogische vaardigheden, een rijk geschakeerd aanbod en samenhang. Het voorstel van SCE leidt tot fragmentatie. CKE kiest anders: niet versplinteren, maar verbinden.
Diversiteit als meerwaarde
CKE is meer dan een instelling die lessen en cursussen verzorgt. Dankzij CKE vinden verschillende kunstdisciplines elkaar, ontstaan nieuwe groepen, bandjes en ensembles, ontmoeten mensen die kunst maken hun publiek en ontmoeten buurtbewoners elkaar door samen kunst te maken. Niet voor niets werken organisaties als het Storioni Festival, de philharmonie zuidnederland, Vitalis en Woonbedrijf graag met ons samen. Iedereen vindt bij CKE wat bij hem of haar past. Dat kan omdat we naast het lesgeven ook bemiddelen, faciliteren, samenwerken, organiseren en nog veel meer. Dankzij onze veelzijdigheid lukt het ons om passende antwoorden te geven op al die verschillende wensen.
Die veelzijdigheid is onze meerwaarde en die diversiteit willen we voor de stad behouden. Diversiteit past bij Eindhoven, de unieke stad en regio waar creativiteit de basis is voor nieuwe ideeën en ontwikkelingen. Diversiteit past bij CKE, een multidisciplinaire en innovatieve kunstinstelling. Andere kunstinstellingen in Nederland volgen ons. Zij zien dat wij aansluiting zoeken en vinden bij de hartslag van onze stad. Met dat proces willen we niet breken, we willen groeien naar een model dat betaalbaar blijft en waarvan cultuur, educatie en samenwerking de kern vormen.
Oproep: deel jouw CKE-verhaal
Verbinden en samenwerken zullen we blijven doen. Dat is nu harder nodig dan ooit. Wil je er samen met ons voor zorgen dat wij onze diversiteit kunnen behouden, dan kun je ons helpen: vertel in een paar woorden of zinnen wat CKE voor jou betekent en/of toevoegt. Je kunt jouw bijdrage mailen naar

Op dinsdag 10 november is om 20.00 uur in het stadhuis een inspraakavond over de concept-cultuurbrief. Daar willen we CKE op onze eigen, creatieve wijze laten zien en horen. Ook daar kun je ons mogelijk bij helpen. In een volgende nieuwsbrief meer daarover.

Last week you received
this newsletter from us, informing you about Stichting Cultuur Eindhoven's proposal to halve CKE funding. We would like to begin by thanking you all for the many letters of support we received in response. Your expressions of solidarity with CKE are much appreciated. They will help us in building a powerful counter-argument.
This newsletter is intended to bring you up to date with the latest developments. We feel it is important to stress that the developments apply to the period starting in 2017. There are no direct consequences for any lessons or courses you may be taking with us at present.
Changing together and innovating
So our first newsletter apparently had some effect. The SCE (Stichting Cultuur Eindhoven) responded by saying that there is no mention of cuts in the concept paper on culture. The fact is that the funding is being redistributed, and that is true, to a certain extent. The total culture budget will not change, but there is definitely mention of cuts in amateur arts education. According to SCE, there is no need to fund these activities; there will, however, be funding available for culture education in schools. CKE agrees that a new approach is needed. We differ in our ideas on the route and result though. We wish to initiate change, and innovate, together with other parties in the city. Without sacrificing a broad range of arts education activities.
Opportunities for the market
In today's Eindhovens Dagblad newspaper, SCE also states that there are many unsubsidised suppliers of arts education in Eindhoven that could take those activities over from us. For example, private music and dance schools and individual teachers who can also provide good lessons and courses. CKE knows these suppliers, and grants them every opportunity. We have reduced our range and work increasingly with private suppliers. In agreement with the municipality, we started down that path years ago. And we intend to continue that way.
Good and careful
Anyone in Eindhoven looking to learn something in the field of the arts, can choose from a great many teachers working both within CKE and separately. If these plans go ahead, that will change. It will only be possible to take lessons and follow courses outside of CKE. The concept paper on culture talks of a quick and radical break from 2017 on. The CKE stops, the market takes over. We believe that this is possible, to a certain extent, but we absolutely do not believe in quick and radical. We prefer to go for good and careful. Not break, but shift. In that way, the continuity, and all that entails, can be safeguarded: the presence of professional expertise, didactic and pedagogical skills, a rich variety in the range and cohesion. SCE's proposal will lead to fragmentation. The CKE chooses a different way: don't fragment, connect.
Diversity as added value
CKE is so much more than an organisation which provides lessons and courses. Thanks to CKE, many different arts disciplines find each other, connect, new groups spring up, pop bands and ensembles, artists find audiences and neighbours meet each other in making art together. There are good reasons why organisations like the Storioni Festival, the philharmonie zuidnederland, Vitalis and Woonbedrijf enjoy collaborating with us. Everyone finds something to suit them at CKE. That is possible, thanks to the fact that in addition to teaching, we also mediate, facilitate, collaborate, organise and much more. Due to our versatility, we manage to find suitable answers to all those differing requests and desires.
That versatility is our added value, and we want to maintain that versatility for the city. Diversity belongs in Eindhoven, the unique city and region in which creativity is the basis for new ideas and developments. Diversity belongs with CKE, a multi-disciplinary and innovative arts centre. Other arts centres in the Netherlands follow our lead. They see that we are successful in looking for a connection with our city's pulse. We don't want to break with that process, we want to grow towards a model which is affordable, the core of which is formed by culture, education and cooperation.
