“Letting go is an important discovery on this CD.” Nils Petter Molvaer

Life’s wheels turn full circle. That is as true of artists as of other mortals. And the new album “Switch” closes a long-turning circle for Norwegian trumpeter Nils Petter Molvaer. Mid-Eighties, he attracted attention alongside Norwegian jazz pioneers Jon Christensen and Arild Andersen in their band Masqualero, a decade later he was busy with his band Khmer laying the foundations of the now-typical Norwegian symbiosis of jazz and electronic music.  More
Nils Petter Molvær (NPM), Norwegian musician, composer and producer, connects multiple music styles - jazz, ambient, house, electronic and break beats, as well as elements from hip hop, rock and pop music - and effortlessly melts them into convincing soundscapes of deep intensity.
A trumpet that knows how to capture both the polar ice caps and the burning desert sand, that can portray surging crowds just as well as total solitude, that loses itself but always finds the way back again. Molvaer has his own very individual sound, influenced as much by the poetry of Scandinavian nature as by electronic calculation, and last but not least by colleagues like Miles Davis und Jon Hassell. But more than anything else, Molvaer has himself. Listening to him play, it's easy to forget that his instrument is a trumpet.
Eivind Aarset
Into the synchronicity of technique and vision he has sculpted since his early teens, Aarset has absorbed inspiration from a variety of musicians, including Bill Laswell, Marilyn Mazur, and, above all, Jon Hassell. That said collaborators are all masters at creating dream logics of their own is no coincidence, for he too is the student of another time-space continuum. With guitar as writing instrument and an array of electronics as his paper, he takes down field notes of a culture we’ve never known, a culture that slides down the ladders of our DNA and airbrushes mantras onto our microbes. Vladislav Delay is one of the pseudonyms of Sasu Ripatti (born 1976), a Finnish electronic musician. He has also recorded as Luomo, Sistol, Uusitalo, Conoco, and Ripatti. Ripatti has been involved in the ambient music, glitch, house, and techno genres. His method of track production involves a mixture of synthesizing, vocal recording and live reprocessing. MORE
We are excited to present an unique collaboration of Jamaica meets Scandinavia: Sly & Robbie meet Nils Petter Molvaer. They toured Europe this summer intensively - including all major festivals (Montreux, Pori, Molde, San Sebastian, Barbican and so on) - and the results were fantastic. Super enthusiastic audiences everywhere.

Jamaica's multi Grammy Award winners and the heartbeat of the island will perform onstage with electro-jazz pioneer trumpet virtuoso Nils Petter Molvær and fellow Norwegian Eivind Aarset pluss finnish electronic-wiz Vladislav Delay (Sasu Ripatti) for some unique shows in 2015 with a set of new material (organic blend of electronic / dub / jazz / world) composed specially for this tour. Let us know of your interest.
Molværs remarkable ease in handling the often-contrary conventions of pop, rock, funk, and modern jazz ensured a strong interest in both acoustic and electric music. This chameleon-like ability soon established him as a much sought-after musician in Oslo, which ultimately led to his a colourful and diverse curriculum vitae as a sideman. During his time with acclaimed jazz combo, Masqualero, NPM was introduced to Manfred Eicher, who welcomed him into his prestigious and much-lauded roster. Alongside the three ECM Masqualero releases, NPM recorded many classic studio sessions for ECM with artists such as Robyn Schulkowsky, Marilyn Mazur, Jon Balke's Oslo 13, and Sidsel Endresen. However, NPM wanted to do something different, both in terms of composition, and trumpet technique.

Sly and Robbie are a prolific Jamaican rhythm section and production duo, associated primarily with the reggae genre. Drummer Sly Dunbar and bassist Robert Shakespeare teamed up in the mid-1970s after establishing themselves separately in Jamaica as professional musicians.
