We take pride in sharing some of what we’ve been up to this year at the library. In the past year over 7,000 patrons visited the library and borrowed over over 9,698 books, DVDs, audio books, e-books and magazines.* The library held 8 weeks of summer reading events which brought in 388 patrons –a 63% increase over last summer for 16,935 total minutes of summer reading! We hope you'll agree that the library is a vital service to our community and we couldn't do it without your support!

Throughout the year the library hosts Paula Smith’s Story Time for toddlers & preschoolers twice per week. Other library programs this fall:
- Diga, a Spanish language conversation group that meets monthly.
- Exploration Station, science program for children preschool through 3rd grade
- Rick Riordan Fan Party & Book Launch for The Sword of Summer
- Fall Book Club has met every two weeks since September and will start a new session February 22nd with A Slant of Light by Jeffrey Lent. Open to all!

Did you know the library hosts exhibits by local artists? Don't miss a chance to view our current show of Monique van de Ven's ceramic works titled Gleaned Near South Royalton, on view until December 5th. Monique's work was recently featured in the Randolph Herald, the Valley News and Seven Days. A reception for the artist was held during the SoRo Artwalk in October.

November is National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo. Since 1999, NaNoWriMo has challenged participants to write a 50,000-word novel in just one month. In October, the library hosted a "Get Ready to Write" Party with Bridgett Taylor. On November 28th, participants will regroup at the library for a final push to get their novels to 50,000 words.
Also in November, Miss Vermont 2015 Alayna Westcom presented Success Through STEM with exploding science experiments that taught chemistry in a fun and relatable way. Westcom is a native of Bakersfield and earned her bachelor's in forensic science from Bay Path University in Longmeadow, Mass., and a certification in medical laboratory science from the University of Vermont.
