POP ACTIVITY AND POP THURSDAY NEWS
In this month on your behalf POP has achieved:
  • We met with a solicitor at FootAnstey to begin planning the future Social Purpose organisation as presented at our conference
  • Met with the director of Culture Plymouth for discussions on how we can make the planning of cultural activity in the city a more democratic process.
  • Worked with UnLtd to set up a Social Enterprise hub in Whitleigh
We are currently working on:
  • POP continues to work with our sector and partners to ensure that Plymouth groups are connected in with the ESIF funds coming out through the Lottery (BBO/LEP). Many relevant calls for adults working furthest from the labour market and supporting young people into work are now 'live' with closing dates of 30th November. If this is the first you've heard of this and want to know more please contact susan@zebra.coop
  • We have set up 8 sessions across the city to help with the roll out of the Plymouth Plan. Email pop@zebra.coop for more information on how to get involved in your area.
  • After meeting with the solicitor we are working towards a business plan and suggested models for governance and wide involvement. Please come along to a Think Tank on Dec 1st 4-6pm in Devonport Guildhall. All  are welcome, with or without committed pledges, to attend and help shape what is happening. RAS NETWORK
The next RAS meeting will be November 12th from 10am-12 noon in Plymouth University, Room 207 Rolle Building

EDUCATION AND TRAINING NETWORK
Our priority work in this network is to ensure that groups are aware how to join as partners in all the Lottery/BBO/LEP/ESIF bidding. All stage 1 bids are due in by 30th Nov, for more info please contact susan@zebra.coop

CULTURE AND ARTS NETWORK
CAN had a good evening of performances at Devonport Live in October, and will be at Devonport Guildhall on 12th Nov. We will be meeting from 5-7pm with guests Dom Jinks (CEO Plymouth Culture) and Paul Brookes (Project Director of the History Centre) before joining Devonport Soup. See your CAN mail out for more info
STREET SERVICES NETWORK
Street Services met on the 22 October, notes attached, we received an update about Street Services and Grounds Maintainance from Gareth Harrison-Poole. 
 
The next date of the our next meeting in 26 Nov at 10.30am.  We hope to have an update about the European Funding Bid 'GRUB'.
VCS FAIRNESS COMMISSION LEADERSHIP GROUP
There will be an update from this network soon.
HEALTH & WELLBEING NETWORK
The last network meeting was on the 15th October as part of POP Thursday and was well attended, hearing from Thrive and discussing ways to support the initiative. More details

We will be looking at the Early Help Gateway in November POP Thursday. Our next CYP network meeting will be Jan 21st 2016

PLYMOUTH PLAN
The Toolkits of the 8 localilties across the city have been launched.
POP has copies of the toolkits and can make copies available for you to use when speaking to people who use your services or are involved in your organisations. There are copies of the toolkits in every library and POP is taking them around the city to enable people to drop-in to pick up copies, use them and leave comments,
for dates of these drop-ins see here. 
As a thank you for every piece of group feedback there is a £50 reward!

SECTOR SUCCESS STORY
This month our Sector success is Pregnancy Crisis Care who have had a great October after announcing they are now able to employ a paid counsellor at the centre one day a week for the next year and then
The Plymouth Drake Foundation awarding them the “Spirit of Community Award 2015” at their recent Celebration and Awards evening!



Pregnancy Crisis Care (Plymouth & SE Cornwall) is a small, local charity, and has been delivering free, confidential counselling to hundreds of women in the city since February 2008.  Their service offers support and impartial, sensitive counselling to people affected by unexpected pregnancy, termination, the loss of a baby through miscarriage, stillbirth, and new-born death. 
The team said "We are delighted and honoured that the Plymouth Drake Foundation has chosen us for this Award and would like to thank their Trustees for nominating and voting for us. Their support encourages us to ‘keep on keeping on’ and to continue to provide this much needed and valuable service.

Arts Resources
Plymouth Culture are busy building a new resource website for creative practitioners in Plymouth.  It aims to be a one-stop-shop where everyone in the arts can access useful and essential information such as:
  * marketing advice   * funding information
  *   access to internships and apprenticeships
  *   business planning advice * specialist workshops *legal advice

Barne Barton Neighbourhood plan
Barne Barton neighbourhood forum would value your thoughts on how their Proposed Neighbourhood Plan may impact on you or your service users. The draft Plan will be available from Monday 19th October 2015 at www.tamarview.co.uk and hard copies will be available at Tamar View Community Centre and St Budeaux Library.

Nominate a Local Green Space in Plymouth

The National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) gives communities the opportunity to protect green areas through the new Local Green Space (LGS) designation. LGS confers the same level of protection as Green Belt land. Nominations from the public will be invited between 28 September 2015 and 8 January 2016. For more info click here

Best Practice Briefing : Legal Highs (New Psychoactive Substances): Hosted by:Plymouth Safeguarding Children Board. Guest Speakers:Harbour Drug & Alcohol Services. The briefings will be delivered as a series of 3-hour sessions. Contact 307535 for further information and to book your place.

Plymouth Plan Consultation Workshops: These 2 1/2 hour workshops will be running across the city over the next 8 weeks to help people use the toolkits, provide feedback and also arrange their own consultation meetings. Find your local event here

Saturday, 14 November 10:00 to 13:00: Training content includes Design, putting ideas in to action, life stages of a project and delivery.

First Steps to Funding: Wednesday, 18 November 14:00 to 16:00: Join our experienced trainer for an introduction to navigating your first funding applications, these are run in small groups allowing plenty of time for 1-1 help and advice

Dementia Awareness Training: Tuesday, 1 December 13:00 to 14:00: The session will take around an hour and will equip you with essential knowledge to be able to support any one living with Dementia that you come in to contact with in the community and will also offer your organisation the opportunity to join the list of companies certified as "Dementia Friendly"

Finance training: Tuesday, 8 December 10:00 to 12:00: Finance Training – Come and learn what Your Community Group, Charity or Social Enterprise needs to know. Run by Dan O’Toole from Plymouth Community Healthcare

First Steps to funding: Wednesday, 10th December 17:30 to 19:30: Join our experienced trainer for an introduction to navigating your first funding applications, these are run in small groups allowing plenty of time for 1-1 help and advice

Project Management: Friday, 11 December 09:30 to 12:30: Training content includes Staying on Track, Building evidence, finance and budgets, challenges and problem solving  and much more

Community Groups Corner
 
PAUSE
Pause aims to raise awareness of safeguarding issues to vulnerable groups of adults in Plymouth. We go to events and hold coffee mornings with a fun quiz to raise awareness around keeping safe. Community Spirit Corner
 
Tomorrows People - Working It Out - 
Is a 10 week personal development programme for the NEET group 16-24 year olds. The course is designed to move young people onto employment, education or training. Part of the course is to take part in worthwhile community challenges. This can be anything from running work shops for Age Concern, youth centres or fundraising activities. The group is max 17 young people and will always be supervised by two members of staff. So if anyone has a challenge please contact - Matt or Jodie on 01752 556104.
