Research Will Provide Insight to How Veterans Perform in Higher Education
Washington D.C., October 29, 2015 – Student Veterans of America (SVA) today signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the National Student Clearinghouse for the second phase of critical research which will measure and track the academic outcomes of Post 9/11 student veterans. The National Veteran Education Success Tracker (NVEST) builds upon the Million Records Project, released in 2014, which specifically reported on student veterans' level of education, majors and ultimately the completion rates of Post 9/11 GI Bill recipients. NVEST adds important new data on persistence rates, retention rates, and transfer rates. NVEST is scheduled for release in April 2016.

“Accurately measuring the academic outcomes of veterans in higher education is critical to empowering colleges and universities to better support their student veteran population through college and post-graduation,” said SVA Vice President of Research, Dr. Chris Cate. “NVEST will provide a benchmark of student veterans’ postsecondary success, identifying areas where GI Bill beneficiaries need more support and leading to future increases to student veteran success. The end result will be greater support for student veterans."

Washington, DC (October 29, 2015) – Jared Lyon, Acting President and CEO of SVA, Curtis L. Coy, Deputy Under Secretary for Economic Opportunity of the Veterans Benefits Administration, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and Dr. Doug Shapiro, Executive Research Director of the NSC Research Center, sign the MOU for NVEST on October 29, 2015.
