Tennis Complex Dedication

Join the SWU community and invited elected officials this Wednesday, Oct. 28, 11 a.m. as we dedicate the Rev. Leroy Cox Tennis Complex, located adjacent to the university's welcome center in Central. Construction on this six-court, USTA-designed facility is currently underway.

It's time to 'Fill the Hill!'

This Friday and Saturday, SWU alumni will join students, faculty and staff and “Fill the Hill” for 2015 Homecoming on the Central campus. Festivities start with a VIP Dinner and “Kickoff” concert. Click here for a complete schedule!

Ready, set, GLOW!

Run 2 Fall 5K will take place at 9 p.m. Oct. 30. Registration starts at 8 p.m., $25 registration fee for adults, $10 for currently enrolled SWU students, $10 for kids. Southern Wesleyan University welcomes COMMITTED, an R&B/Pop singing group comprised of five young men who won Season 2 of the NBC hit musical competition “The Sing-Off.” The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. in Newton Hobson auditorium.

Alumni Awards and Homecoming Kickoff
Southern Wesleyan University’s 2015 Homecoming festivities will begin with an unforgettable evening, featuring the Rick Webb Family and SWU’s own University Singers, Oct. 30 in the auditorium of Newton Hobson Chapel and Fine Arts Center. The doors open at 6 p.m. and the concert begins at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person. Purchase tickets online, or by calling Debbie Guhr at ext. 5384. Special thanks to our concert sponsor, Nationwide Insurance.
The Greenville learning center will soon move just down the road to its new location! The first classes will meet at the new learning center starting Nov. 2 in the Anderson Building at Park East office park, not far from the I-85/I-385 interchange. Map>>

SWU reaching out to students impacted by flooding

Early October’s record flooding across South Carolina impacted many SWU students and their families in the Midlands and Lowcountry. For details on ways to help, go online to www.swu.edu/floodsupport. This web page outlines ways to give, including a way to give online. It also outlines volunteer opportunities with relief organizations providing assistance to flood victims. 

Jazz Ambassadors to present big band, swing and more

The internationally acclaimed Jazz Ambassadors of Washington, D.C. will continue its long tradition of presenting free public performances when they appear Nov. 14, 7:30 p.m. at Newton Hobson Chapel and Fine Arts Center auditorium.

Health Survey

The Pickens County Health Coalition has developed a survey to get opinions about health problems in the community. The results will be used to identify issues we can address through community action. If you are a Pickens County resident, please click on this link to take the survey. It will only take about 10 minutes and your input is very valuable to us. The survey will be available until Nov. 10, but please don't wait, do it now! Thanks for your participation in advance!

Athletics News

The scoreboard is now up at the soccer field at Joe R. Gilbert Track and Field Complex. This state-of-the-art digital board is 20 feet wide by 10 feet tall, and elevated at the southwest side of the track. A huge video display topped by the Warrior logo promises to take the fan experience to new levels!
Lindsey Torgerson (’07), left, is pictured with two Team USA teammates at the ITU World Championship Duathlon in Adelaide, Australia, which just concluded. Torgerson finished fifth in the world. She is a member of the 2007 NCCAA Championship Women’s Basketball Team at SWU.

From the Health Center

Flu shots are available by appointment through the Health Center. The cost is $25.  We will be able to file on your insurance this year through Baptist Easley or you can pay with cash or check. If you are interested, please contact Nurse Herron at ext. 5134 or Debbie Eller deller@swu.edu or ext. 5131 for an appointment. 
Nurse Practitioner Jessica Rivera is in the Health Center on Monday and Thursday mornings. She will see patients by appointment 8:15 – 11:30 a.m. Appointments can be scheduled by contacting Debbie Eller at ext. 5131 or Nurse Lori Herron at extension 5134. Services are for both minor urgent care issues and preventative/primary care including physicals and management of chronic medical issues. 

Rivera is also available to do sports physicals for employee’s children. Just call for an appointment.

The services provided by the Nurse Practitioner from Baptist Easley will be billed to insurance. All billing will be handled by Baptist Easley Hospital. 

Dr. Beacham will continue to be on campus but his services will only be for students. If you have additional questions please direct those to Nurse Herron.
