NY State Education News You Can Use:

 

 News from NYSED

  • Common Core Standards Survey:
    • The State Education Department launched an online survey of the State’s Common Core Learning Standards, including the current English Language Arts/Literacy and Mathematics Learning Standards. The survey will be open until Monday, November 30, 2015.
  • The Board of Regents is considering a proposed amendment for students with disabilities to graduate via appeal, and is accepting public comment until November 23, 2015
    • Find contact information for submitting comments here.
Computer-Based Testing:
  • In the 2015-16 school year all operational assessments will be administered on paper, but schools will have the option of administering the stand-alone field tests by computer or paper.
    • Schools are currently signing up for computer-based field testing in 2016 through the online 3-8 ordering system.
    • Consult the minimum technical requirements to determine your school's readiness for computer-based testing.
    • Schools may change their selection for computer-based or paper-based field tests by logging back in to the test ordering system, but decisions must be finalized by 12/31.

Office of Data & Assessments
  • As of 2:00PM on 10/23/2015 all 18 district’s data folders have been updated on Google Drive.
    • This includes the charts, graphs and data that were in the “2014-2015 Data Portfolio”, which the superintendents received on Wednesday Oct. 21st.  
    • When opening your Google Drive you will also see 2 historical data files. These longitudinal data sources will able you to produce additional charts for the NYS assessments.
    • If you can’t access your district’s data Google Drive, contact your superintendent or Stephanie Allen at sallen@sllboces.org.

Staff/Curriculum Development Network (SCDN)

  • Learning Leadership Fall 2015: 
    • The SCDN, an organization of the instructional leaders from across the state, created a new quarterly newsletter to provide information on current topics pertinent to school districts and BOCES.

Teacher to Teacher Collaboration

  • Teachers, by grade level or subject area, continue to share resources, best practices, and information applicable to all through Schoology.
    • Please be sure your teachers are enrolled in Schoology and signed up for the specific groups that are applicable.
    • Directions for setting up a Schoology Account and the course codes needed to enter each group are here.
  • Grade level/subject Teacher to Teacher sessions are scheduled for the school year. A number of sessions have been cancelled due to low enrollment. Facilitated by teacher leaders, these sessions were scheduled at the request of teachers and administrators. Please encourage your staff to attend. 


Upcoming Professional Development:
  • Journey Into Literacy Conference:
    • Registration for the Journey Into Literacy Conference has been extended until 10/26.
      • Administrators can participate in the social hour, dinner and keynote sessions on Friday afternoon as a “Guest Registration” for $50. Register here
