As part of New Economy Week (Oct 10-17), together with other nine organizations we organized Investments for the Sake of Climate and Community, a half-day forum to share the latest on investing in local enterprises and away from fossil fuels. Around 70 people including small investors, business owners, activists, and lending organizations joined us at the Vermont Law School in South Royalton, while more than 200 participated online.
Investments in farms and soil featured prominently through the work of Slow Money Vermont, the Food Investors Network, Vermont Community Loan Fund, White River Investment Club, Soil4Climate and the Soil Carbon Coalition. We all got excited with Milk Money's crowdfunding tool that matches small investors with entrepreneurs, now that investing in Vermont businesses has been made easier by changes in the securities regulation.
We felt that the day was filled with energy and possibilities; moving money is both personal and actionable, a good combination for taking the next steps.
