A note from Maria

Hello friends!

Well, Harvest 2015 has just about come to a close. Here’s a snapshot.
  • Duration: September 12 – October 22  (40 days)
  • Tons Pressed: 365
  • Crew: 20 people, give or take
  • Lunches and Dinners: about 35 of each
More than half of the crew were people visiting from other parts of the country. We had guest workers from Washington, California, Maine, New Hampshire, Alabama and three from Georgia. They’ve all gone home now and I can tell you it’s pretty quiet around here. Which is nice, but...
This year’s was a great crew. Everyone worked really hard and pulled their weight. And there was much laughter, good conversation and impromptu guitar playing too. When each of our guests left to go back where they came from, it was hard to say good-bye. It’s always wonderful to make new friends. And as Colleen from Portland, Maine said “it’s been like being away at summer camp. New friends, new adventures and lots of memories.”

Every year at the end of the season we poll the crew and see what their favorite meal was. No big surprise that meatloaf is the usual winner. But this year there was a close second in a Pork Pie I made one night. I discovered the recipe when I was working on last month’s Wine Club recipes. It’s delicious and filling – perfect harvest food - so I posted the recipe on my blog. By the way it’s an excellent match with our Menefee Vineyard Pinot Noir, in case you’d like to give that a try.

I hope you’ve enjoyed following along and seeing a bit of behind the scenes of winemaking. I know we’ve enjoyed your comments and “likes” on social media. And we’ll all look forward to tasting the 2015 wines when they’re ready for us. 

Meanwhile, save the date for our annual Harvest Open House – Saturday, November 21st, in the winery. 

More details will follow soon. Among other treats, we’ll be releasing the 2013 Single Vineyard Pinot Noirs that day.
