Unplug.

Happy late Sunday folks. I got back a few hours ago from spending the weekend in southern Indiana and Kentucky. First, camping in a teepee at a small family owned retreat, and second at Dinosaur World, a park of life-like model dinosaurs. It's as incredible as you are thinking right now.

I've always been a fan of the outdoors. My family went camping all the time growing up, and it has stuck with me. But as I've gotten older going camping has taken on a different meaning. I've always enjoyed hiking and the lifestyle of the back country, but now it's taken on a more therapeutic role too. I'm always so tuned in to everything going on around me. Social media, news, YouTube, blogs, the never ending stream of content can burn you out sometimes.

The simple silence of being out in nature can make a huge difference. You can physically feel your body decompressing. The silence is palpable when you are out there. Although, I will say we camped next to a Halloween scare path.. so for a couple hours each night there was the sound of chainsaws and screaming. The point still remains.

You don't need to go camping out in the boonies to achieve this. Just dedicate some time every once in awhile to silence. Create an environment where your senses aren't constantly bombarded. It can do you a whole lot of good, and refresh you to get working again.

More good stuff

The new Steve Jobs movie coming out is causing quite the stir in the tech community. The first one starring Ashton Kutcher got absolutely torn apart by critics, and this one is supposed to be better. Yet I read this very interesting article about how the Jobs portrayed by Sorkin, and acted by Fassbender, is not the one he knew. Now I know it's basically impossible to get all of the angles of a person right in one movie, much less one as complex as Steve Jobs. But this type of situation makes me wonder about bio-pics. It's only been a few years since Jobs passed and there are already two skewing people's image of him. How many will it take? Just an interesting story to follow. Jobs is a super fascinating figure to me, so I want the movie to be good. But I also want it to be accurate, something the first two seem to struggle with.

Take some time to unplug this week. I'll talk to you after Halloween.

Cheers!
-Al
