Everyone's Watching Valeant

Good morning from New York,

This morning we've got earnings and big news from Valeant ($VRX), who has vowed to set up an ad-hoc committee to investigate Philidor agreement. The board of advisors has conducted an internal audit of existing business lines, and had additionally set up an ad-hoc committee to allow management to resume normal operations. Additionally, ValueAct's president G. Mason Morfit will join the board of directors, a huge sign of confidence from institutional investors. Finally Valeant disclosed contacting the SEC regarding a potential investigation of Citron Research.
Natural Gas merger mania?
Piedmont ($PNY) is being bought out by Duke Energy ($DUK) for about $4.9 billion. The deal assumes $1.8 billion in Piedmont's debt, and is a 40% premium to it's Friday closing price.
Can Apple maintain margin growth?
Tomorrow after the market close, we are strapping in for Apple's earnings report. What to watch for? Two BIG numbers that Wall Street is watching, 1. OPEX is an important number this quarter, as many are hoping margins continue to improve. 2. iPhone sales are the single most important factor attributing to $31.3 BILLION in revenue last quarter. Many are expecting higher Q/Q revenue, but a slowdown Y/Y.
Chinese internet mergers...
This morning, a couple of interesting headlines coming out of China, including the merger of travel site Qunar ($QUNR) with industry leader Ctrip.com ($CTRP). As a derivative play, Baidu ($BIDU) is a large shareholder in Ctrip.
