Nobody asked for it, nobody wants it

On 28 October, MEPs rejected the European Commission's proposal "allowing national bans on the use of safe, EU-approved products on the basis of non-scientific criteria". EuropaBio urges the Commission to take heed of the vote by the democratically elected Parliament and withdraw its harmful and disproportionate proposal, in line with its own Better Regulation Agenda. Catalising the transition towards a circular bioeconomy

Co-organised by EuropaBio, SmithersRapra and Bio.Be, the 8th edition of EFIB returned to Brussels last week for three days of discussion, debate and networking. "This year EFIB took place at a crucial moment in the development of an EU circular economy strategy, in the run-up to the biggest EU conference ever addressing investment in the bioeconomy and with Climate talks at COP21 in Paris on the horizon", comments Stephan Tanda, Chair of EuropaBio’s Industrial Biotech Council. Agricultural biotech

A new report by organisations representing the UK agriculture and biotech sectors has warned the proposal to allow member states to ban GM imports could have a "devastating impact" on the EU livestock industry, pushing up the cost of animal feed and staple food products. Read more
