Nutcracker 2015-Bigger and Better than Ever!

We are so excited about this year’s 27th annual production of the NUTCRACKER! A cast of nearly 280 student dancers have been rehearsing since mid September. Virginia Stapleton and Nick Cann have collaborated on an eye catching new set enhancement for Act 2 (we’re not going to give it away, we want you to be surprised!). Faculty member Shelley Scott has been working hard to create brand new choreography for the Reed Flute variation which will also feature gorgeous new costumes designed by the incomparable Karen Barar.

In early September, a record number (26!) of dancers auditioned for the coveted role of Clara; and nearly thirty Advanced 3 dancers auditioned for the Snow Trio, Sugar Plum Fairy and Rose Queen roles. Our judging panel had their work cut out, assessing and scoring these talented dancers. The dancers performed exceptionally well, which is a tribute to the hard work they've put in over the past year (and this summer, too!).

Lily Burgis and Kaitlin McGrath won the role of Clara. Senior Shannon Madsen and Junior Elise Minami will perform as the Sugar Plum Fairy; Juniors Hannah Dunn and Lily Gaudin will dance the role of Rose Queen; and there will be a trio of Snow Trios this year, comprised of Helene Churton, Mary Bello, Lauren Roberts; Bay Whitney, Olivia Ng, Caitlyn Reed; and Alexis Paff, Caleigh Stephens and Hannah Dunn.

The competition was very close and we are very proud of all the girls, not only for their focus, poise, and ability, but for being supportive and positive during a challenging process.

Congratulations to all who participated.

Sensational Cast Assembled for A Christmas Carol

The Stapleton Theatre Company will present the fifth annual production of the Broadway musical version of A Christmas Carol, Dec. 17-20th at the Drake High Little Theatre.
Auditions were held in mid-September and Director Bruce Vieira has assembled a fabulous cast.
Fairfax resident Michael Paul Thomsett will return to play the role of Ebenezer Scrooge. Michael Paul previously performed as Marley in our 2010 and 2011 productions. The Thomsetts are a loyal Stapleton family-Michael Paul and his wife Erika’s beautiful daughter Brianna is a Bud in our Nutcracker! Actress Jennifer Boynton returns to play the singing, dancing jovial Ghost of Christmas Present; and we welcome Casey Grim as the Ghost of Christmas Past. Pat Conran will play Bob Cratchit and his wife and daughter will join him on stage! Perennial scene stealer David  Smith returns as the jovial Mr. Fezziwig and his “real” wife, Erika, will debut as Mrs. Fezziwig.

Over forty local children, teens and adults round out the cast; visit our website for the complete cast list. We hope you'll join us at the Drake Little Theater, Dec. 17-20th  for this holiday favorite. Tickets on sale now!

DanceReach seats still available!

Don’t Miss RISE – COM Fall Dance Concert to feature Stapleton Dancers!

The September edition of the Spotlight featured a story about the exciting new collaboration happening between Stapleton and the College of Marin. Eighteen of our Advanced 3 dancers are taking a Stapleton class on Friday at the COM beautiful new dance studio. This innovative partnership is exciting and it has helped us to deal with the space crunch that we are experiencing. The Stapleton dancers will be featured in the Fall Dance Concert, which will take place on two weekends: Oct 30 & 31 and Nov 6 & 7. We invite and encourage the Stapleton community to come out to this concert to support our students and the other dancers featured.
