CLZ and Awely Pair Up for an Anti-Snare Campaign

CLZ's Environmental Educator, Besa Kaoma and Operations Manager Rabson Tembo have just returned from a successful three day educational campaign in three villages in the Chiawa GMA alongside our human wildlife coordinator and Awely Red Cap Stephen Kalio. The campaign focussed on the issue of snaring and how if you 'remove a snare you can save a life'. The campaign was filled with drama activities and intellectual discussions about the effects snaring has on wildlife and in-turn tourism and the economy of the Lower Zambezi.

Besa Kaoma enjoyed the sharing of knowledge, stating that "the campaign was so productive, the people in the villages came out in numbers and we learnt from them as they learnt from us. We shared knowledge on how we can protect our animals because most of the people in the valley depend on the natural resources that drive the local economy in the Lower Zambezi."

We would like to thank Awely - Wildlife and People for funding the campaign and providing the technical support to ensure the campaign ran smoothly, as well as designing the amazing logo. We would also like to thank Mugurameno School Conservation Club for coming up with the Anti-Snare Campaign Slogan, the Nasaaz Drama Group for performing an amazing sketch about the effects of snaring on local wildlife and the dedicated lunch ladies for feeding the participants and educators.

October sees the end of 2015's Nzou Environmental Education Program

This month the Nzou Environmental Education Program came to an end for 2015. The final school visit was where from our Chinunuyu Project area whilst our final Outreach was in our Rufunsa Project area. The school visits ended off the year with a fantastic group of young budding conservationists from Chinunuyu, in which, an eager young female student achieved a 99% for the end of visit test - the highest mark for 2015!

This year's education program was one of great success, excitement and challenges. From the introduction of the newly developed curriculums and student activity books to the intellectually stimulating Conservation Quiz, fantastic career talks from Chongwe Safaris and Royal Zambezi Lodge and of course our very first exciting venture with Proflight Zambia who sponsored 24 children and 4 teachers to be flown back to Luangwa Boma after a CLZ school visit. The EEP program now awaits the completing of reports and the great expectation of generating our new M&E system with the help of an UNZA student.

We would like to thank all our donors and sponsors who contributed to this years EEP and who helped make it possible - Sidecole, Elephant Charge, Chongwe Safaris, Royal Zambezi Lodge and Proflight Zambia. Our hope is that seeds have been planted and proactive enthusiasm combined with realistic visions will surface and become tangible within the respective communities and environments.

We look forward to see what 2016 holds for the Nzou Environmental Education Program.

Elephant Charge 2015

At the beginning of the month CLZ's Mudhogs joined the 2015 Elephant Charge 4x4 challenge once again. Habitually they entered the challenge with their trustworthy wheels of the ANIMAL. The day is traditionally one of dust, sweat, blood and tears, all whilst aiming to raise money for various conservation organisations in Zambia including CLZ. This year the Elephant Charge raised a generous amount of $61,000 towards the cause of supporting conservation in Zambia.

The competition was steep and the hills where steeper but in the end CLZ came out 5th place with The Camels taking 1st. The CLZ Mudhogs will await next year to once again to compete for first place.
Thank you!
Thanks to all our members and donors who make our work possible.
