30 Americans at the Detroit Institute of Arts

Join us on Wednesday, December 2 at 7 p.m. as we welcome Carlene Van Voorhies of the Detroit Institute of Arts. Ms. Van Voorhies, a docent with the DIA, will be presenting a talk about their current exhibit 30 Americans, which explores issues of racial, political, historical, and gender identity in contemporary culture and features such important African-American artists as Kerry James Marshall, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Kara Walker, Nick Cave, Kehinde Wiley, Carrie Mae Weems, Robert Colescott, Glenn Ligon and Lorna Simpson. We hope to see you there!

Discover the Power of Your Library Card with Streaming Apps!

Did you recently get a new smartphone or tablet and want to explore some of the many things you can do on it with your library card? We have two great programs in December that will help you unlock the potential of your new device!

First, on Friday, December 4 at 2 p.m., stop by and see What’s All the Hoopla About? With Hoopla, you can stream or download movies, TV shows, eBooks, audio books and comics directly to your device.

Then on Wednesday, December 16 at 7 p.m., you can register to learn more about Zinio, a service that allows you to download and read popular magazines directly on your device. Space for these programs is limited and registration is required, so call us or visit our program calendar for more info.

Check Out What We Are Enjoying!

Are you looking for a great book or want a good recommendation of what movie to watch next? Let the Library staff guide you, as we are constantly reading, watching, and reviewing titles, both old and new. Check out the list of “What We’re Reading” as well as our “Movies, Music, and More” page when you are ready to read, watch, or listen to something new!

Coffee & Conversation

The cold winter months are coming, but that doesn't have to mean you can't stop by the Library. Perhaps you might even be able to grab a hot cup of coffee while you're here. The Library offers you the opportunity for "Coffee & Conversation" on the third Friday of every month. The group will meet next on December 18 and January 15, so stop by the library at 10 a.m. for a cup of java and the opportunity to chat with some great and interesting people. See you there!
