Three BRYC Seniors Named QuestBridge Finalists
Godis Jackson
Caleb Patterson
Randi Flot

Dear Friends,

Last week, we received news that three of our Senior Fellows have been named finalists for the highly coveted QuestBridge Scholarship. Godis Jackson, Caleb Patterson and Randi Flot attend Baton Rouge Magnet High School, Lee High School and Scotlandville High School, respectively. They all rank among the top in their classes and have worked hard to earn ACT scores of 25 or higher.

QuestBridge connects high-achieving, low-income students to full scholarships at some of America’s best postsecondary institutions, including Stanford, Yale, MIT and many others. Finalists for the QuestBridge Scholarship are poised to enter some of America’s greatest universities.

The application process includes two rounds. First, QuestBridge selects approximately a third of its 11,000+ applicants as finalists. Second, finalists apply to eight QuestBridge partner colleges of their choosing. In early December, approximately 10% of finalists are named QuestBridge “Scholars” – that is, they are matched with one of the eight colleges they prioritized. Both rounds are rigorous, with students having to write as many as thirty essays total.

Finalists who are not named Scholars are able, in the “Regular Decision” round, to apply to any of the QuestBridge partner colleges they choose. Each will do so with the impressive tag of a QuestBridge Finalist. Historically, three times as many finalists earn full scholarships to a QuestBridge partner college as do Scholars who are matched in December.

So what are we saying? We are saying that by virtue of having been named QuestBridge Scholars, Godis, Caleb and Randi are well positioned to receive scholarships valued at up to $300,000 to some of our nation’s top schools.

At the start of its seventh year, BRYC has seen three students earn full scholarships through QuestBridge to Wesleyan, Brown and Grinnell College. But last Wednesday was an historic one for BRYC, as we have never seen more than one finalist in a year.

Through hard work, and with BRYC’s support, these students have solidified their postsecondary futures. What’s more, they are just three of forty Seniors Fellows working diligently to do the same.

We appreciate your interest in BRYC and the support that makes success like this possible. We look forward to sharing more great news with you in the coming weeks and months.

Sincerely,

Lucas Spielfogel
