The European Social Dialogue should respects real representativeness

Four years after EBC’s request to the European Commission, on 28th September Eurofound published the final report of the study ‘Representativeness of the European social partner organisations: Construction sector’. As the European representative of construction micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, EBC has been working since 2005 to become a recognised European social partner.

Posting of workers – Construction SMEs ask for a level playing field

At the beginning of October EBC sent an open letter to Commissioner Thyssen to put forward clear proposals on the issue of posting of workers. EBC calls on the European Union to better regulate posting situations and to create a real level playing field, by addressing the cases of abuses and circumvention of the European law. These issues are not and will not be addressed by the 2014 Enforcement Directive.

Ill-conceived consultation on circular economy

EBC along with UEAPME sent a letter to new DG ENV Director General Daniel Calleja Crespo to speak out against the way the consultation on circular economy was carried out. The consultation was not at all suitable to SMEs and their representatives. It was ill-conceived and did not take into account the variety of stakeholders that have an interest in circular economy.
The consultation proposed only multiple choice questions, which were available only in English and was over 25 pages long. Some of the questions were very vague, looking more as an opinion poll rather than the assessment of policy options. This reproduces a similar situation, when two years and half ago DG Environment launched the consultation on sustainable buildings.
EBC hopes that Mr. Calleja in his new function will address this issue.
