LS Flood Relief Efforts
Thanks to all who helped with our Living Springs “Neighbors Helping Neighbors” effort Saturday – and to all who have contributed so much of your time, energy, and resources over the past few weeks. It was truly a powerful experience last weekend at the 2 home project sites and the Christ Mission distribution center. We hold in our prayers all those recovering from this disaster and all who work in the ongoing marathon relief effort! Here are some updated response options:

OPPORTUNITY TO HELP WITH HOME OF ELDERLY COUPLE
Carpet has already been torn out - they need assistance in washing down walls with bleach/water. A LS team is being formed to help them on Thursday or Friday. If you can help, please contact the office and leave a message indicating times you would be available.
|
|
|
Ongoing needed items are:
- Cleaning Supplies, Towels & Washcloths, Pet Food
- Blessing Bag Items (to replenish our supply from the nearly 250 distributed) – protein or granola bars, snack-sized canned fruit, travel-size toiletry items, first-aid items, bottled water
Our SC Synod has established a fund to expedite direct resources for those in our Midlands area and the state. Financial donations may be given through our congregation - make payable to “Living Springs” and mark “flood relief.”
Details are still unfolding regarding the need to host 1-2 AmeriCorps teams here at the church. This could take place anytime between now and February 1, as they rotate teams and sites – we’ll keep everyone posted.

6:46! Fall Prayer Series
Mondays
Do you have a Spirit-Tug to grow deeper in relationship with God through prayer? As part of our new Adult Faith Milestones ministry, we announce a 5-part series to be offered on Mondays, Sept. 28 – Oct. 26, from 6:46-8:00 pm. Our motivation is Mark 6:46, where Jesus says farewell to the crowds and goes “on the mountain to pray.” We say farewell to the crowded schedules of our lives and gather at 6:46 in the sanctuary to connect more deeply with God through instruction, learning, and various experiences of prayer. All are invited – bring a neighbor or friend!

Faith Formation Focus in October:
Moses
|
|
|
In September, our Faith Formation Focus was upon Abraham and Sarah. We learned that God blessed Abraham and Sarah with land, many descendants, and a son named Isaac.
October is going to be another amazing month as we see how God blesses Moses to lead God’s people, just as God blesses us each day to share God’s love and hope to everyone we meet.
We encourage all ministry teams and groups to focus on the passages relateing to Moses for your October devotions.

Lessons for Sunday, October 25
First Reading: Jeremiah 31:31-34
The renewed covenant will not be breakable, but like the old covenant it will expect the people to live upright lives. To know the Lord means that one will defend the cause of the poor and needy (Jer. 22:16). The renewed covenant is possible only because the Lord will forgive iniquity and not remember sin. Our hope lies in a God who forgets.
Psalm (ELW): Psalm 46
The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our stronghold. (Ps. 46:7)
Second Reading: Romans 3:19-28
Paul’s words stand at the heart of the preaching of Martin Luther and the other Reformation leaders. No human beings make themselves right with God through works of the law. We are brought into a right relationship with God through the divine activity centered in Christ’s death. This act is a gift of grace that liberates us from sin and empowers our faith in Jesus Christ.
Gospel: John 8:31-36
Jesus speaks of truth and freedom as spiritual realities known through his word. He reveals the truth that sets people free from sin.
