8. Public Information Period
a. Please explain the process of notifying the public on paving projects, including street closures and detours. Street closures require a 48 hour notice in advance, then it is email to you for public notice and all City department heads, with the exception of emergencies. Any closure concerns can be directed to our office (804) 733-2353.
More specifically, the Halifax project was in fact two parties involved (Columbia Gas and City Utility Lines). This was a pre-scheduled upgrade emailed to all, but there was a water main break during the repairs, causing our utility crews to be out there for days, delaying the project and altering traffic control. This has not been an issue before this emergency repair and now moving forward we will have additional inspections for emergency repairs.
b. What is the progress of Virginia Avenue School? The developer is in the process of securing the necessary funding to complete the project.
