October 2015

Well what a month we have had since our last newsletter! It started off with the news that we always dread here in the office; the death of one of our children. You may remember that in our last newsletter we were looking for someone to support the education of Boston in Malawi, well not long after we had sent the newsletter Project Leader Webster contacted us to say that Boston had died of Tuberculosis, a disease that should be easily preventable and treatable. After the pain and suffering that Boston had know in his short life it seems so unfair that his story should end in this way, however, this is the reality of life for the children that we support, a reality that we are fighting to change. We will always remember Boston and hold him in our hearts and his story will continue to to inspire and motivate us.

The month ended on a more positive note as Charity Manager Jen and myself were able to visit our project in Nepal, partly to assess the damage done by the devastating earthquake earlier in the year and also to strategise for the future with Project Leaders Krishna and Sita. We arrived with some trepidation; not only was the country suffering continuing aftershocks and new earthquakes of around 4.5, but there was widespread violent protests against a new constitution that was being written at the time. What we saw there made us laugh, made us cry and broke our hearts, do not miss the full write up about our trip.
