Staff Association Council Day
October 14, 2015
A bench has been dedicated to University of Pittsburgh staff and the Staff Association Council.  The bench is adjacent to Hillman Library across the promenade from Posvar Hall.  Several past presidents were in attendance: Gwen Watkins, Deborah Walker, and Babs Mowery (current member).  Deborah Walker read a proclamation from Mayor Peduto's office declaring October 14, 2015 to be Staff Association Council Day in Pittsburgh.

Pitt United Way Day of Caring
October 9, 2015
Many Staff Association Council members participated at Day of Caring sites through the City of Pittsburgh.  Below left, SAC members pose for a picture with Chancellor Pat Gallagher visiting Dan Marino Field/Frazier Farms work site.  Below right, SAC members wait to get started on the day's work - preparing the gardens for fall and tidying up the Frazier Field House.

Faculty and Staff Development Program Adds Certificate Program for Supervisors this Fall

The Faculty and Staff Development Program has added a much-needed program to its line-up this fall. The HR Administration Certificate Program is aimed at helping University supervisors navigate the responsibilities associated with tasks such as talent acquisition, compensation administration, FMLA administration and others.

The series of eight workshops is designed to improve the knowledge and skills of supervisors who not only carry out day-to-day HR tasks but also the important responsibilities of performance management and fostering diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

Participants receive a certificate upon completion of all eight workshops and satisfactory completion of a Knowledge Mastery Test. For descriptions of each workshop and to register for these workshops online, visit
www.hr.pitt.edu/HRACP.
Pitt staff achieve greatness in and out of the workplace and we want to hear about it!  Know a co-worker that was recognized for their work in the community?  Tell us!  We want to brag about exemplary Pitt staff!  Email sac@pitt.edu. Do not be shy!
Meet SAC Member Tami Haslett!

Tami Haslett is the Digital Pre-Press Technician in the Printing Department of Communication Services.  She works on all the files that pass through this department.  Her duties range from layout, design, pre-flighting, troubleshooting, proofing and plating.  She is responsible for every print job.  Tami has worked for the University for eight years.
Her involvement with SAC:  Tami just re-joined SAC in September, 2015.  She is currently on the External Relations Committee.  She was a previous SAC member and can now participate because of her schedule.
Why did she join SAC?  Tami says, “I have spent a large amount of time volunteering to make a difference in the world outside of the University.  I figured that it was about time that I got more involved to make a difference inside the University.”
What is her vision on how SAC can impact the University?  “Everyone that I have met so far is really nice.  It is nice to be involved with other people that want to make a difference.  I see SAC as a way to make Pitt a better place for all.”
Fun Facts about Tami: “I was honored and humbled to have been one of the chosen recipients of the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Service to the Community earlier this year.”  (Here are links to the articles: http://www.utimes.pitt.edu/?p=34565 https://www.chronicle.pitt.edu/story/chancellor-honors-staff-their-service-university-community).
“I am the Media Relations Chair for Pancreatic Cancer Action Network – Pittsburgh Affiliate.  I was chosen for the 2015 Media Relations Chair award at the Community Outreach Leadership Training Awards dinner in San Diego, CA in August, 2015. I am also an Educational Volunteer at the National Aviary.  In addition, I do caricatures and donate 100% of the proceeds at various charitable events held by Animal Protectors of Allegheny Valley, Relay for Life at Pymatuning Lake and Shenango Valley Relay for Life. I also love to spend time at my cottage in Jamestown near Pymatuning Lake.”
