Join Us On a Volunteer Trip!

As we inch closer to 2016, Xela AID is continuing to prepare for our upcoming volunteer trips. There are currently seven trips in the works and three of those trips are open to the public. If you are interested in working hands on with the people of Guatemala this is your chance. Our week long trips are specially planned for the volunteers and include stays at marvelous hotels, fun activities and meaningful volunteer work with the people of San Martín Chiqito. One day you could be assisting in elementary school classrooms, participating in medical or construction projects and the next day you could be lounging on a hammock looking out at a breathtaking lake. It is an experience that you will never forget. CLICK HERE to check out our 2016 dates and to get more information about what you can expect! Leaders of Today

Leaders pose for a photo at the
Guatemala National Congress meeting.

Over the past two months Xela AID’s Leaders of Today have been working hard to improve their leadership skills, education and set a positive example for the younger children in the village. They are taking action by creating partnerships with many different institutions in Guatemala that offer a variety of educational courses.

One of the partnered institutions offered baking scholarships to three young women from the Leaders program. Other Leaders were given the opportunity to join computer, theater, radio and television courses. These weekly classes are opening exciting doors and possible careers for the Leaders. The students are taking advantage of what is being presented and are having fun doing it!

Aside from these educational courses, a few Xela AID Leaders were able to attend the Guatemala National Congress meeting that was held October 10-12. “Taking advantage of all these opportunities has not been easy, but I'm pleased at the progress we've made in recent months with the group,” says Elmer Mazariegos, coordinator of Leaders of Today.

Kids are the Future

“Children are likely to live up to what you believe of them,” said Lady Bird Johnson, former First Lady of the United States. Since the children of today will be the the leaders of the tomorrow, Xela AID is dedicated to empowering and honoring village youth. Xela AID’s Leaders of Today did just that on October 3rd when they celebrated the children of Xela AID's San Martín Tots Preschool in honor of National Childrens Day in Guatemala. The celebration included games, breaking piñatas, gifts, dancing and cake. The kids had a blast and felt appreciated. Xela AID's Leaders report that a good time was had by all!
