Dear <<First Name>>,

Every now and then it's important to stop and take stock of the ground you've gained. Given the past few months' rampant campaigning, big media moments, reaching the milestone of 79,000 signatures on our petition, and encroaching on 50 Ambassadors and 1000 Facebook followers, I reason now's as good a time as any. Please read on for some of September and October's success stories.

Manning Valley Payday

In my last newsletter, I spoke about the efforts of Judy Hollingworth and the Push For Palliative community in Taree. Now their hard work has paid off.

On the 30th September, Member for the Myall Lakes Stephen Bromhead gave the group a kick-starter of $15,000. This amount will go toward better resources for palliative care services in the area, and future advocacy efforts.

Success in South Australia

Back in July, a small rural palliative care service based in the south east of SA had its funding cut by two thirds. Some of you may know that the community started both a handwritten petition and an online one in response and I started one for them.

They pushed. 10,000 hand written signatures were collected. The media reported almost every week on the issue. And the day before the planned community meeting in Mt Gambier, the Health Minister announced that he would restore funding to the service.

It's a wonderful result and a real show of what grassroots advocacy can achieve. The community meeting went ahead the next day, and many of the 160 community members present agreed to form a group to help other underfunded palliative services across SA.

You can watch the entire proceedings here.

Q&A Appearance

I was fortunate enough to direct a question to NSW Premier Mike Baird on ABC's Q&A last month, and his answer was perhaps promising for palliative care. As small as it may seem, keeping public pressure on our pollies like this is important.

Dubbo Ambitions

Just a quick note that I am travelling to Dubbo for meetings on the 10th November. I am keen to form an advocacy group there. It's a key battleground in the push for better palliative care.

If you are interested in helping a group form in Dubbo, please reply to this email. I greatly appreciate every response!

Warmest Regards,
Yvonne
